zendframework/zend-i18n-resources
Translation resources for zend-i18n: prebuilt translation files for validator messages, captcha, and other Zend Framework components. Load them into your Translator to localize error and UI strings without writing translations yourself.
zend-i18n across dozens of locales. The buy decision is trivially cheap (BSD-3-Clause, zero config), but it only buys strings you already know how to source elsewhere — Laravel's own lang/ files plus laravel-lang/common cover the same ground natively.zend-i18n, zend-validator, or zend-form. That makes it an input to a roadmap item ("retire Zend Framework dependencies by Q_") rather than a feature decision.laminas-i18n wired in, so it does not close that requirement by itself.laminas/laminas-i18n-resources, keep an unpatched 2019 snapshot, or drop the dependency. A PM should record this as a known-risk item, not a net-new adoption.Consider it only when all of the following hold:
zend-i18n / laminas-i18n (typically transitively) in the Laravel app, and something is emitting untranslated validator messages.Look elsewhere — or stop — when:
laravel-lang/common (or equivalent) and never introduce zend-i18n at all.laminas/laminas-i18n-resources is the same data under an active organization — prefer it outright.Verdict for scoring: 19 stars, archived, six-year-old last release, score ~1.36 — deprioritize as an adoption candidate; treat as a signal of legacy dependency debt if it is already present.
To executives (one paragraph): This is a free, permissively licensed set of translated error messages for a PHP internationalization library — data only, no application logic, no vendor relationship, no cost. It is not a platform decision and not a differentiator. The only decision worth executive attention is a governance one: the package was archived in 2019 and is no longer maintained, so if we are relying on it we should either move to the maintained Laminas equivalent or remove the underlying dependency. Recommendation: no new adoption; add to the technical-debt register and address during the next dependency-hygiene cycle.
To engineering: Treat as a data-only dependency. It supplies locale arrays of validator/captcha/form messages to zend-i18n; it has no runtime services and adds no startup cost beyond file inclusion. The correct modern target is laminas/laminas-i18n-resources; on pure Laravel, the correct target is native lang/ files with laravel-lang/common as the source of framework strings. Action: confirm whether it is a direct or transitive dependency, pin the maintained fork if the dependency must stay, and open a ticket to remove the Zend-era chain when the depending package is upgraded. Do not build product features on top of it.
