Filament Chat Ai Laravel Package

filaforge/filament-chat-ai

Add an AI-powered chat interface to your Filament admin panels with this lightweight plugin. Integrate conversational assistants into your Laravel app so users can ask questions and get quick answers directly inside Filament resources and pages without leaving the admin panel.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Internal-tooling AI copilot — the package targets Filament admin panels, so the primary decision it informs is whether to add an in-panel assistant (support triage, content drafting, natural-language lookups against admin data) rather than build a bespoke chat surface.
  • Build vs. buy on chat UI — it is a thin integration layer over a chat UI in Filament. The buy case is strong on effort (weeks of UI/state/streaming work avoided); the build case strengthens if our requirements diverge on data access control, conversation persistence, or provider abstraction.
  • Scope of the AI pilot — a v0.1.x drop is best framed as a discovery experiment, not a roadmap commitment. Use it to answer "do our operators actually use an assistant in the admin panel?" before allocating a quarter of engineering.
  • Not a customer-facing decision — nothing here suggests readiness for external users (SLA, moderation, PII handling, theming control). Keep it off the external roadmap.

When to Consider This Package

Consider it when all of the following hold:

  • You already run a Filament-based admin panel and the assistant's audience is internal staff.
  • The integration risk is acceptable at pre-1.0: expect breaking changes between minor versions, pin the exact version, and budget time to read the source rather than rely on docs.
  • You can own the LLM provider relationship, API keys, cost controls, and data-egress review yourself — the plugin is the UI, not the governance layer.
  • You have a named owner who will evaluate it in a timeboxed spike and can rip it out cleanly if it stalls.

Look elsewhere when:

  • You need vendor support, an SLA, or a security review artifact. There is no evidence of any of these.
  • The chat is customer-facing, or will handle regulated/PII data — a v0.1.x third-party plugin is the wrong control boundary for that.
  • You need documented, stable APIs; the v0.1.0 → v0.1.2 release shipped with no release notes beyond an auto-generated changelog link, which is itself a signal about change-management maturity.
  • Filament isn't your admin stack — the value is almost entirely in the Filament-native integration.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

To executives: This is a low-cost, low-commitment probe into whether AI assistance inside our back-office tools changes operator throughput. It is a plugin, not a platform bet — scoped to internal users, removable in an afternoon, and it lets us learn from real usage before we commit budget to a first-party build. I am explicitly not recommending it for customer-facing surfaces. Expect it to move fast and break occasionally; we should treat it as a spike with a decision point, not a dependency.

To engineering: Small surface area, Filament-native, easy to isolate behind a feature flag and easy to delete. Caveats you should weigh: it is pre-1.0, the current release (v0.1.2) documents no substantive changes, and we are taking on the LLM provider integration, secrets, rate limiting, and audit logging ourselves. Recommendation: pin the version, wrap it behind an interface so we can swap providers and swap the UI, and spend the first day reading the source rather than the README. If the spike succeeds, the follow-on decision is whether to keep the plugin or reimplement the ~few hundred lines of UI we actually depend on.
