capell-app/notes
A notes package for Capell that lets you create, manage, and display notes within your Laravel application, with a simple admin interface and support for attaching notes to your existing models.
Architecture fit. capell-app/notes is a module in the Capell CMS family — a modular Laravel CMS composed of Composer-installed packages rather than a monolith. Architecturally this is the right shape for a Laravel application that needs editorial/content functionality without adopting a full CMS: modules register via service providers, ship their own migrations, config, routes, and (typically) Filament-based admin resources. If the target application already runs Capell core, this is a near-zero-friction addition; if it does not, this package is not standalone and pulls an ecosystem with it.
Integration feasibility. Standard Composer install plus provider discovery, with config/migration publishing where applicable. Feasible for a mid-level Laravel team in a spike, contingent on the package's composer.json constraints aligning with the host app's PHP and illuminate/* versions — which we cannot confirm from this release.
Technical risk. Elevated, and driven almost entirely by release hygiene rather than code:
v1.1.0-beta.47 implies 47 beta iterations on a single minor line. That is a strong signal of an unstable public surface (schema, contracts, config keys) and a real cost to pinning and re-validating.capell-app/core and the Capell version matrix; a notes module is rarely the constraint, the core is.Key questions to close before committing.
capell-app/core.Stack fit. Appropriate for an existing Capell-based Laravel app needing a notes/content type with admin UI. Not appropriate as a general-purpose notes library, and not appropriate for teams unwilling to adopt the Capell ecosystem and its release cadence.
Migration path.
"capell-app/notes": "1.1.0-beta.47") in a throwaway branch — never a floating ^1.1@beta constraint.composer.json and composer.lock against a clean Capell reference install to surface transitive constraints.Compatibility. Validate the illuminate/* and php constraints against the host app first; conflicts here are the most common and cheapest-to-find blockers. Confirm which Capell core line this beta targets — a notes module pinned to a core line you are not on is a dead end regardless of quality.
Sequencing. Do not integrate before GA unless there is a hard product deadline. If there is, sequence as: (a) dev-only spike, (b) schema validation on production-shaped data, (c) feature-flagged integration behind an abstraction boundary, (d) promote only on a tagged stable release. Keep the notes data model behind an application-level repository/interface so a swap-out is a config change, not a rewrite.
Maintenance. The dominant recurring cost is upgrade cadence, not code. Beta-to-beta upgrades require manual changelog archaeology each time, which is unbudgeted toil. Budget roughly a half-day per upgrade cycle until GA, and require a written changelog as an exit criterion before the team takes a production dependency.
Support. OSS with an unknown support model and a likely small maintainer set. Treat upstream response time as best-effort; assume the team must be able to read and patch vendor code in an emergency (fork-and-pin as contingency).
Scaling. Unverified. The notes content table will grow with editorial volume; confirm indexes on foreign keys and any polymorphic/content relation columns, and confirm whether listing queries are paginated server-side. Also confirm cache invalidation behaviour on note publish/unpublish — stale content in a CMS module is a user-visible defect that surfaces only under load.
Failure modes to plan for.
composer update.Ramp-up. A Laravel-competent engineer is productive with the package itself in one to two days. The real ramp is Capell-specific: module conventions, admin panel wiring, and content modelling — call it three to five days to competence, plus the upgrade-archaeology habit. Document the pinned version and the upgrade runbook from day one; nobody will reconstruct it later.
Recommendation. Proceed with a time-boxed technical spike only. Do not take a production dependency on a pre-GA, changelog-less beta release. Gate promotion on: GA tag, written changelog, confirmed version matrix, and one clean schema diff against production-shaped data.
