Filament Polish Laravel Package

zepfietje/filament-polish

Filament Polish adds Polish language support to Filament admin panels, translating built-in interface strings, labels, and messages so you can ship a fully Polish-language admin experience with minimal setup.

Getting Started

  • Install with composer require <vendor>/<package> and publish any config/views/asset tags the service provider registers (php artisan vendor:publish --provider="..."). Run the migration/seed only if it ships demo data.
  • Look first at the package's config/ file (if any) and its Blade component/view namespace. Since this is a 0.1.x UI-layer package, the source of truth for behaviour is the Blade components + CSS, not a PHP API.
  • First use case: drop the layout shell (sidebar + content slot) around one admin screen, then add a sortable table and a modal-driven create/edit form. That exercises all the components touched in 0.1.0 and gives you a quick visual baseline.

Note: no release data was supplied for the assessment, so component/class names below are illustrative — confirm exact names against the package's README and resources/views before wiring them in.

Implementation Patterns

  • Shell-first integration. Extend the package layout for your admin area rather than composing the sidebar/notification pieces ad hoc; it keeps spacing and shadow decisions (see 0.1.0's "sidebar without shadow") consistent across screens.
  • Tables as the primary surface. Use the table component for index pages, relying on the built-in sortable header + row action slots. The new "edit action without icon" is the pattern to prefer for text-heavy action columns; pass a label instead of an icon.
  • Modal-driven forms. Keep create/edit flows inside the modal component and submit via a standard form request; return a redirect + flash so the notification component handles the toast on the next request.
  • Notifications from session flash. Drive toasts off session()->flash() in controllers instead of calling JS directly — it survives redirects and keeps the component the single renderer.
  • Override, don't fork. Publish only the views you actually need to change and keep the rest resolving from the package, so upstream fixes still land.
  • Version-pin pre-1.0. With 0.1.x, lock the constraint ("^0.1" or exact) and review changelogs on upgrade — component APIs are still settling.

Gotchas and Tips

  • Published views shadow the 0.1.0 fixes. The close-button sizing, sort-icon sizing, and table font-size changes ship in the package views. If you published and customised those files, you will not get them on upgrade — diff your published copies against the vendor originals after updating.
  • Sidebar shadow removal is a visual breaking change for custom themes. If your own CSS targets the sidebar's shadow or spacing, re-check alignment; the 0.1.0 change is cosmetic but visible.
  • Icon-less edit action needs accessibility. With no icon, ensure the button has visible text or an aria-label, and re-check the action column's width — text actions are wider than icon buttons.
  • Tailwind content paths. If the package ships Tailwind classes, add its view path to tailwind.config.js content (or rely on a prebuilt CSS), otherwise sizing utilities get purged and the 0.1.0 fixes appear to do nothing.
  • Debugging styling issues: inspect the rendered class list first, then check whether a published view is overriding the package's. Clearing compiled views (view:clear) resolves most "my update didn't apply" cases.
  • Extension points: prefer slot injection and component attribute pass-through over editing package views; that's the only path that survives a 0.1.x → 0.2 bump cleanly.
