Laravel Tes Laravel Package

yudifaturohman/laravel-tes

An early-stage Laravel package from yudifaturohman, published as laravel-tes. It aims to add a lightweight helper layer to Laravel apps, but with zero stars and minimal documentation, treat it as experimental and review the source before using it in production.

Getting Started

  • Install with Composer: composer require yudifaturohman/autonumber. Laravel package discovery should register the service provider; verify in config/app.php only if you disable discovery.
  • Publish any package config/migrations if the README requires it, then run php artisan migrate. Confirm exact publish tag/provider from the package README for your installed version.
  • Look first at the published config, the sequence/autonumber table migration, and the trait/helper class the package exposes. Those define the format tokens, reset behavior, and persistence model you will use day to day.
  • First practical use case: attach the package trait/helper to an Invoice, Order, or Receipt model and generate a unique document number such as INV/2025/0001 when the record is created.

Implementation Patterns

  • Prefer model-centric generation for simple cases: use the package trait on the model, define the target column and format, and generate during the creating event so every created record gets a number consistently.
  • Use a service/action class when numbering is part of a larger workflow, e.g. creating an invoice plus items plus audit log. Keep number generation inside the same database transaction as the record insert.
  • Centralize formats per document type in config rather than hardcoding prefixes in controllers: invoice prefix, order prefix, date tokens, padding length, and reset period should be configuration-driven.
  • Add a unique index on the generated number column. Treat duplicate-number errors as a signal to retry generation inside the transaction, not as something to ignore.
  • Decide reset semantics explicitly: never, yearly, monthly, daily, or per-tenant/per-branch. If the package only supports global sequences, include tenant/branch identifiers in the format and test boundary resets.
  • Generate once and treat the number as immutable after creation. Do not regenerate on updates; if manual override is required, make it an explicit administrative action with validation.
  • Test with frozen time (Carbon::setTestNow()) for first number, next number, reset rollover, and format regex. Add a concurrency test against your real database if numbering volume is high.
  • For release 1.4, the release note only links to the changelog. Review the 1.3...1.4 compare diff before upgrading, then run package tests and your own model creation tests in a branch before production.

Gotchas and Tips

  • Race conditions are the main risk. Naive “max + 1” generation can duplicate under concurrent requests; rely on transactions, row locking where appropriate, unique constraints, and retry logic.
  • Timezone and reset boundaries matter. Use the application timezone consistently and decide whether a yearly sequence resets at Jan 1 00:00 app time or UTC.
  • Format token ambiguity and padding can surprise you. Confirm how the package handles date tokens, literal separators, variable-length sequences, and leading zeros.
  • Vendor assets may need republishing after upgrades if config or migrations changed. Do not edit files inside vendor/; publish and customize the package assets.
  • Debugging checklist: inspect the sequence/autonumber table, check model events are firing, confirm the trait is actually used on the model, enable query logging, and reproduce with a fresh transaction.
  • Extension points usually include overriding the generator/format resolver or binding a custom service. Use those for complex numbering rules instead of scattering conditionals across models.
  • Because 1.4’s notes are only a changelog link, pin the package version until you have reviewed the diff and confirmed there are no breaking config, migration, or API changes.
