xi/dialog-bundle
Xi Dialog Bundle provides reusable dialog and modal components for PHP applications, with simple configuration and integration for handling user interactions. It offers a lightweight way to add maintainable dialog workflows to your project without unnecessary overhead.
xi-bundle-dialog, xi/ajax-bundle), not a Laravel package. It informs the roadmap decision that no Symfony-derived UI helper should enter a Laravel codebase, and that any legacy Symfony footprint must be explicitly quarantined from new work.NOASSERTION — not a recognized SPDX identifier. This supports a standing product/legal decision: packages without a clear, machine-readable license cannot enter the dependency tree, regardless of technical merit. Useful precedent when auditing other low-star candidates.Adopt only if all of the following hold — realistically this will almost never be true:
xi/ajax-bundle and jQuery, and you need a dialog helper consistent with existing patterns.NOASSERTION license in writing, with the origin and terms traced to the upstream repository. Without that, stop here.Look elsewhere — strongly — when:
Recommended alternatives to evaluate before any build decision: a headless UI dialog library on the frontend plus Laravel controllers/Inertia or Livewire for the AJAX payload — that combination is maintained, licensed clearly, and testable.
To executives: We evaluated xi/dialog-bundle as a candidate for dialog and AJAX-loaded modal UI. Recommendation: do not adopt. It is a small, unmaintained Symfony-era jQuery helper with essentially no adoption (2 stars, 0 dependents), it does not fit our Laravel stack, and its license is not clearly stated — which is a legal risk we do not need for a feature this small. There is no cost saving here; the integration and diligence cost exceeds simply building the dialog in-house on components we already maintain.
To engineering: This is not a Laravel package and not a candidate for the dependency tree. The capability it offers — a jQuery dialog that loads content over AJAX — is a few dozen lines with our existing frontend stack and is more accessible, testable, and CSP-friendly when we own it. Please do not add jQuery back into new modules for this. If a legacy Symfony surface exists that already uses xi/ajax-bundle, keep it isolated behind the existing boundary and do not extend it; track replacement in the modernization backlog.
To legal/security: Two flags worth recording in the dependency register: license is NOASSERTION (no recognized terms asserted), and the project shows no maintenance signal. We are declining on both grounds. If it is ever proposed again, the burden is on the proposer to produce written license clarity and a named internal owner for patching.
