threadmeup/slack-sdk
A PHP SDK for interacting with the Slack API, offering a simple interface for sending messages, managing channels, and handling webhooks. Ideal for adding Slack notifications or bot integrations to Laravel and PHP applications.
Consider it when:
chat.postMessage to a webhook or token you control.Look elsewhere when:
slack-php/slack-php-sdk, Slack's official Bolt for PHP, or a small in-house HTTP wrapper against Slack's REST API.To executives: This is a free, MIT-licensed PHP wrapper for posting to Slack. It costs nothing to trial and could let us ship a Slack notification channel in days rather than weeks. The catch: it was last released in 2014 and has 34 stars, so it is effectively abandoned. My recommendation is to use it only to validate the feature, with zero long-term commitment. If the feature proves valuable, we budget a sprint to replace it with a maintained SDK or a small in-house wrapper. This is a cheap experiment, not infrastructure.
To engineering: 34 stars, last release a decade ago, no maintenance. Slack's API surface has moved on enormously, so expect coverage of only the oldest, simplest endpoints. It is a reasonable scaffold for a spike, or for legacy code that already vendored it — do not add it to a new production service. If we adopt it, we own it: fork it, pin it, and file a replacement ticket on day one. The concrete ask is a two-day evaluation of whether a thin internal wrapper does the same job with a dependency we control.
