Maker Bundle Laravel Package

survos/maker-bundle

Survos Maker Bundle extends Symfony MakerBundle with generators and scaffolding helpers for rapid CRUD, entity, and admin code creation. It streamlines repetitive setup tasks so you can bootstrap features faster in Symfony applications, with sensible defaults and reusable maker commands.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Build vs. buy for internal admin tooling. The package's only real job is generating CRUD controllers and templates for an admin interface. That makes it a candidate for one specific decision: do we hand-roll back-office screens, adopt a full admin framework, or use scaffolding to get to a first screen fast and decide later?
  • Time-to-first-screen estimation. For a spike or MVP where the admin panel is a supporting feature (not the product), generated controllers/templates can compress the "blank page to clickable" phase from days to hours — useful input when scoping an internal-tools roadmap item.
  • Framework strategy input. Because it is a Symfony-family bundle, evaluating it is really a decision about framework alignment, not about a component. If the product is Laravel, this package informs nothing except a "no" — worth logging so it isn't re-surfaced.
  • Buy-vs-fork posture for admin scaffolding. With 0 dependents and no release since June 2022, any adoption implies we accept maintenance ourselves. That is a resourcing decision, not a code decision, and belongs in the roadmap conversation.
  • Opportunity-score calibration. The 8.32 opportunity score sits against 4 stars and 0 dependents. Use it as a worked example when we audit how we score candidates — a high score on a near-unused, unmaintained package suggests the heuristic rewards novelty over adoption.

When to Consider This Package

Consider it only when all of the following hold:

  • The project is Symfony, not Laravel — this is a Symfony maker bundle. In a Laravel codebase it is not adoptable without a rewrite.
  • The admin interface is internal or throwaway, where generated scaffolding is an acceptable long-term maintenance position.
  • You have an engineer willing to vendor or fork it, since upstream activity effectively stopped in mid-2022.
  • You are explicitly prototyping, with a known decision point at which you either keep the scaffolding or migrate to a maintained admin framework.

Look elsewhere when:

  • Production longevity matters. Four stars, zero dependents, and a two-year-old last release mean no ecosystem, no community triage, and no security response. That is the dominant fact about this package.
  • You need framework-standard tooling. On Laravel, evaluate Nova, Filament, or Backpack. On Symfony, EasyAdmin, SonataAdmin, and the official MakerBundle are the maintained paths and cover most of the same scaffolding ground with actual support.
  • You want an admin product, not a generator. If the requirement is a durable admin UI, a maintained framework is cheaper over any horizon longer than a sprint.
  • Procurement or compliance review is in the loop. An unmaintained dependency with no dependents will not survive a supply-chain review, and asking it to will cost more than the scaffolding saves.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives: This is a small, unmaintained code generator for admin screens, and it targets Symfony rather than our Laravel stack. I am not recommending it as a dependency. I am recommending we treat it as a reference point: it confirms that admin scaffolding is a solved, low-value problem, which means we should not spend roadmap effort building one — we should adopt a maintained framework and move on. Net cost of the evaluation: hours. Net cost of adopting it: an ongoing maintenance obligation with no support behind it.

For engineering: Use it as an idea, not a dependency. The pattern — generate controllers and templates rather than hand-writing CRUD — is already available in maintained tools in both ecosystems (EasyAdmin/SonataAdmin on Symfony, Filament/Nova on Laravel). If someone wants to spike with it, constrain it to a branch or sandbox, do not let it reach composer.json on a production path, and record the decision.
