Tasador De Coches Laravel Package

staiapps/tasador-de-coches

Tasador de coches is a Laravel package for vehicle valuation, offering a simple way to estimate car prices within your PHP application. Early-stage with no stars yet, so review the source and docs before relying on it in production.

Getting Started

This assessment is written against a package with no published release notes and no prior assessment — v0.0.1 is the initial tag and its changelog is empty. Treat everything below as the workflow to follow while you establish ground truth from the source, and verify class names, config keys, and artisan commands against composer.json, the service provider, and the README before relying on them.

  1. Install and inspect, don't just install.

    composer require <vendor>/<package>
    cat vendor/<vendor>/<package>/composer.json   # PHP + illuminate/* constraints
    ls vendor/<vendor>/<package>/src vendor/<vendor>/<package>/config

    The extra.laravel.providers block tells you whether the service provider is auto-discovered. The illuminate/* constraints tell you whether it will even boot on your Laravel version.

  2. Publish before you configure.

    php artisan vendor:publish --provider="Vendor\Package\PackageServiceProvider"

    Most Laravel packages ship a config file plus optional migrations. Publish both, then php artisan migrate. If the provider uses tags (--tag=config, --tag=migrations), prefer those — it avoids dumping assets you don't want into your repo.

  3. Find the front door. In a well-built package the primary integration surface is one of: a facade, a container-bound contract, a trait you add to an existing model, or a single artisan command. Grep the provider's register()/boot() for $this->app->bind, singleton, Facade::class, and $this->commands([...]) — whatever it registers there is what you call.

  4. First use case: pick one small, already-working manual code path (a job, a webhook handler, a report generator) and re-implement it through the package behind a feature flag. That gives you a diffable baseline before you commit.

Implementation Patterns

Wrap it in your own adapter. Don't scatter PackageFacade:: calls across the codebase. Bind a thin App\Contracts\Thing interface in your own service provider and implement it with the package. When v0.1.0 breaks the API — likely, given a 0.0.1 start — you change one file.

Resolve from the container, not statically. Prefer constructor injection of the package's contract or client class over facade calls. This makes it swappable in tests and keeps you honest about lifecycle (singleton vs. per-request).

Config over env. Put package configuration in config/<package>.php and reference config('package.key') at runtime. Calling env() from package code or from your own runtime code breaks under php artisan config:cache, which you should assume is enabled in production.

Queue the slow path. Anything that makes an outbound HTTP call, parses a file, or iterates a result set should run in a job. Pattern:

dispatch(new SyncThing($model))->onQueue('integrations')->timeout(120);

Make the job idempotent — retries are guaranteed, ordering is not.

Extend via events, not subclassing. If the package dispatches events, listen to them in EventServiceProvider rather than overriding published classes (which you'll lose on the next release). If it doesn't, that's a gap worth filing upstream.

Testing. Bind a fake in setUp() or in tests/TestCase.php rather than hitting the real thing:

$this->app->bind(ThingContract::class, FakeThing::class);

For HTTP-based packages, Http::fake() plus Http::assertSent() is usually enough to avoid touching the network. Assert your adapter's behaviour, not the package's internals.

Deployment hygiene. Pin to an exact or ~0.0.1 constraint while pre-1.0. Run php artisan queue:restart after every deploy that contains a package upgrade — workers hold old code in memory.

Gotchas and Tips

  • 0.0.1 means no compatibility promise. Semver's 0.x carve-out is explicit: anything may break in a minor. Pin exact versions and read the diff of every upgrade, because the release notes may not tell you anything.
  • Auto-discovery isn't universal. If the package predates Laravel 5.5 conventions, or if your composer.json disables discovery via extra.laravel.dont-discover, you must register the provider and any facade alias by hand in config/app.php.
  • Config caching bit me first. After editing .env, run php artisan config:clear. A stale cached config is the single most common "the package ignores my settings" cause.
  • Double migrations. If you publish migrations and the provider also calls loadMigrationsFrom(), you can end up with a duplicate table creation. Check boot() and pick one.
  • Long-running processes. Under Octane, Swoole, or a queue worker, singletons persist across requests. If the package holds request state in a singleton, you'll get leakage between users. Test with octane:start before you ship.
  • Debugging: php artisan tinker plus app(YourContract::class) to see what actually resolved; php artisan about to confirm the provider booted; Log::debug() inside your adapter for the inputs and outputs. If the package swallows exceptions internally, wrap calls in try/catch and log before rethrowing.
  • Extension points to look for, in order of preference: contract binding → events → published config/views → published classes (last resort, because they fork on upgrade).
  • Watch the upstream repo, not just the changelog. With an empty 0.0.1 note, commit history and issue tracker are your only reliable signal of what's coming. Subscribe before you build anything load-bearing on top of it.
