Filament Bookmarks Menu Laravel Package

stafe-group-ab/filament-bookmarks-menu

Add a bookmarks menu to Filament admin panels so users can save frequently used pages and records, then reopen them from a convenient dropdown. Easy to install and configure, it gives each user personalized shortcuts and faster navigation across existing interfaces.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Navigation UX investment for internal tools. Bookmark menus (global, admin-curated plus per-user) let operators pin the resources, records, and pages they touch daily. This is a concrete answer to "our admin panel has 40+ resources and people keep hunting through the sidebar."
  • Build vs. buy for a bounded utility. The feature is small and self-contained. Buying (adopting) is defensible if it drops in cleanly; building is also defensible at roughly a sprint-day of engineering. The decision hinges on Filament version compatibility, not on feature richness.
  • Roadmap sequencing for power-user efficiency. Useful as a low-cost, high-visibility item to ship alongside a larger admin-panel initiative — it gives ops/support stakeholders something tangible while the bigger work lands.
  • Target-segment prioritization. Most valuable for high-frequency, multi-resource internal users (support, ops, finance reconciliation, content moderation). Low value for occasional admin users with a handful of screens, where default navigation is already sufficient.
  • Standardization across panels. If the org runs several Filament panels, a shared global bookmark set becomes a lightweight way to encode "the pages that matter" per team without custom nav code in each app.
  • Not a differentiator. Treat it as table-stakes ergonomics, not a product bet. It should not consume roadmap narrative or displace work with customer-facing impact.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt only after clearing these gates:

  • Filament version match. Last release is June 2023, which predates later Filament majors. Confirm the plugin installs and behaves on the exact Filament/Laravel versions you run before anything else. If it needs patching to boot, that changes the calculus from "adopt" to "fork."
  • Small blast radius. It is a navigation convenience with no data-model or auth implications in the core flow. That makes it a low-risk trial: feature-flag it for one team, measure, decide.
  • License and vendoring are clean. MIT plus a small surface area means you can vendor or fork if the maintainer goes quiet — but budget for that ownership explicitly rather than assuming it away.
  • Maintenance tolerance is high. 24 stars and a single-maintainer pattern means low community validation and thin bus factor. Acceptable for internal tooling you can fix yourself; not acceptable if your admin panel is business-critical and you have no Laravel/Filament capacity in-house.
  • You do not need more than pinning. If requirements include recents/history, cross-panel or cross-tenant bookmarks, per-role bookmark governance, or audit trails on what users pinned, this package will not carry you and you should scope a small in-house build instead.
  • Look elsewhere or build if you need an actively maintained dependency with an SLA, if your Filament version is unsupported, or if bookmarks must integrate with an existing permissions/tenancy model.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives (one paragraph): Our internal admin panel has grown to the point where operators spend real time navigating rather than working. This is an MIT-licensed Filament plugin that adds bookmark menus — a curated global list plus each user's own pins — so people land on the screens and records they use every day in one click. It is a small, low-risk ergonomics win, not a strategic bet: no licensing cost, no data-model change, easy to remove if it disappoints. The caveat is that it is a small open-source project with a 2023 release, so engineering needs roughly half a day to validate it against our Filament version. Recommendation: timebox a validation spike, pilot with one ops team, and measure time-to-navigate before rolling out broadly.

For engineering (the ask): Spike this on a branch against our current Filament version. Confirm it installs, registers, and renders global plus user bookmarks correctly, and check whether persistence and panel scoping fit our tenancy setup. If it works as-is, adopt and vendor-pin it; if it needs patching, estimate the fork cost against a half-day in-house implementation of a bookmarks table plus a Filament menu renderer. Either way, keep the integration behind a config flag so we can drop it without touching product code.
