Filamentloginscreen Laravel Package

solutionforest/filamentloginscreen

Customize the Filament login screen with your own branding, background images, styles, and layout. This package makes it easy to replace the default login page and tailor authentication screens to match your admin panel.

Technical Evaluation

Architecture fit

  • Narrow, well-scoped plugin: it swaps Filament's default auth login page for a styled one (custom Login page class plus publishable Blade views and config). It does not touch the domain layer, models, or database.
  • Fit is strong only if the target app is already on Filament and the ask is purely cosmetic (branded login, marketing-style split layout). It is a presentation-layer dependency, not a platform capability.
  • Because it overrides an auth-critical page, it sits on a security-sensitive seam: the login form's CSRF token, validation, throttling, remember-me, and password-reset link must survive the swap.

Integration feasibility

  • Low effort: composer require, publish config/views, point the panel's ->login(...) at the provided page class (or register as a plugin), then customize the published Blade.
  • Realistic estimate: half a day for a first pass, 1–2 days including responsive/a11y review and regression testing of the auth flow.
  • The package is essentially a set of design templates. If it lags, the published views can be lifted into an in-house page class with no loss of function — a cheap exit.

Technical risk

  • Maturity signal is weak: 30 stars, single-vendor stewardship, last release May 2024, score 0.33. Expect no formal support SLA and limited test coverage.
  • Version risk is the top concern. Filament's view/component contracts and auth page internals change across majors; verify the composer.json constraint against the Filament version in use before committing.
  • Plugin-collision risk: two-factor, password-policy, SSO/social-login, and captcha plugins that hook the login page may not render through a replaced view.
  • Security risk: a hand-edited login Blade is a classic place to silently drop throttling, autocomplete hints, or error-state messaging.

Key questions

  • Which Filament major versions are declared as supported, and does it match our panel version?
  • Does the custom page preserve rate limiting, validation error display, remember-me, and password reset?
  • Are assets bundled/Vite-compiled or pulled from a CDN (CSP and offline-build implications)?
  • Does it support localization/RTL, and is the design keyboard-navigable with adequate contrast?
  • Who is the maintainer, and what is the release cadence over the last 12 months?
  • Does it conflict with our 2FA, SSO, or captcha plugins?

Integration Approach

Stack fit

  • Laravel + Filament admin panel, Composer-managed, MIT license — no procurement or licensing friction.
  • Only appropriate for panels where the login page is a branded touchpoint (customer-facing portals, white-label installs). For internal-only admin, the default Filament login is sufficient and this adds risk for no benefit.

Migration path

  • Treat as additive: install on a branch, publish config and views, register the custom page in the panel provider, diff the rendered form against stock Filament to confirm no auth affordances were lost.
  • De-risk by pinning the exact version in composer.lock and committing the published views into the repo, so an upstream abandonment does not block us — we own a frozen copy of the markup.
  • If the package fails review, the fallback is a ~100-line in-house Login page extending Filament's own, reusing the design.

Compatibility

  • Confirm Filament major version support and PHP constraint against our runtime.
  • Validate against every other plugin that decorates the login page — test the combination, not the plugin in isolation.
  • Check that the styling pipeline (Tailwind/Vite) does not collide with the panel's asset build.

Sequencing

  1. Verify Filament version compatibility and plugin co-existence (spike, ~1 day).
  2. Implement on a branch; run auth regression: valid login, invalid login, throttling, remember-me, reset flow, 2FA challenge.
  3. Accessibility and responsive review.
  4. Ship behind a feature flag or in a staging panel first; monitor auth error rates for a week.
  5. Only then adopt as a standing dependency and document the vendored-views fallback.

Operational Impact

Maintenance

  • Runtime footprint is negligible — no migrations, no queues, no external calls, no data storage. Operational cost is concentrated entirely in upgrade cycles.
  • Budget a recurring check at each Filament major upgrade: verify the page class still satisfies the parent contract and the published views still render.

Support

  • Vendor support is effectively self-support: solo maintainer, low visibility, infrequent releases. Do not plan on upstream fixes for our edge cases.
  • Internal ownership should be assigned to whoever owns the Filament panel; the vendored views make this tractable.

Scaling

  • No scaling concerns. The login page is a static render on an unauthenticated route; traffic spikes (e.g., campaign launches) are handled by the existing session/throttle stack, not this package.
  • Watch only that published assets are cacheable and served from the app origin.

Failure modes

  • Filament upgrade breaks the page class or view contract → login page renders blank or 500s. Highest-severity failure, and it hits the front door of the app.
  • Published views drift from the package after an update, or are overwritten on re-publish → silent loss of customizations.
  • Conflicting auth plugin stops rendering (2FA prompt never appears) → security regression that passes casual testing.
  • Upstream abandonment → mitigated by the vendored-views exit path.

Ramp-up

  • Very low. Any Laravel developer comfortable with Blade and Filament can own this in a day; no specialist knowledge required.
  • The onboarding cost is not the package, it is the auth regression checklist — write it once and reuse it at every upgrade.
