Simple Contact Form Laravel Package

solution-forest/simple-contact-form

A simple Laravel contact form package that handles form rendering, validation, email delivery, and spam protection out of the box. Drop it into any Laravel app to add a working contact page with minimal setup and configurable recipients.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Build vs. buy for a commodity surface. A contact form is not a differentiator. Every engineering day spent on validation, mail plumbing, and spam handling is a day not spent on the roadmap. This package lets you buy (adopt) roughly 2–5 days of undifferentiated work for the cost of a code review.
  • MVP and launch scoping. It makes "we need a Contact Us path" a same-sprint item for a marketing site, waitlist page, or internal tool, instead of a backlog negotiation.
  • Roadmap capacity and sequencing. Because it is small and MIT-licensed, it is cheap to trial in a spike. You can validate the feature without committing a squad.
  • Reversibility as a decision input. The surface area is small enough to vendor or fork. That makes this a tactical decision with a low cost of being wrong — which is exactly the kind of decision a PM should push down to the engineering lead rather than escalate.
  • Dependency posture. 12 stars, 0 dependents, and a low opportunity score say this is commodity code, not a strategic platform bet. Treat it as replaceable implementation detail; do not build product integrations on top of it without forking first.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt-eligible when:

  • Stack is Laravel and the need is one simple form: name, email, message → email to an inbox.
  • No CRM, ticketing, or marketing-automation integration is required (or it can be handled downstream of the notification).
  • You are willing to own the code. Assume no upstream support: verify Laravel version support, test coverage, whether views/config are publishable vs. hardcoded, and whether spam protection is present.
  • License and procurement are non-issues (MIT, no contract, no cost).

Look elsewhere when:

  • You need real anti-spam/abuse handling (rate limiting, CAPTCHA, IP reputation) or deliverability guarantees.
  • Requirements include file uploads, multi-step flows, localization, strict accessibility commitments, or a GDPR/consent audit trail.
  • Volume or compliance means an outage on the form is a real business risk.
  • You need a maintained dependency with CVE response and a support path — a single-maintainer package with near-zero adoption does not give you that.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

To executives: This is a commodity capability with near-zero cost and no procurement. Adopting it saves an estimated few engineering days on a non-differentiating feature and gets a customer-facing contact path live sooner. The downside is capped: MIT license, small code footprint, and we can fork or replace it in days if needed. It is not a platform commitment and should not consume leadership attention.

To engineering: Timebox a half-day evaluation. Confirm Laravel version compatibility, inspect the source for hardcoded assumptions (recipient address, view paths, mailer config), check test coverage, and confirm anti-spam behavior. If it clears, vendor or pin it and assign an internal owner. If it doesn't, we write the equivalent controller ourselves — that outcome is also acceptable, so don't over-invest in the evaluation.

The honest caveat: low adoption means no social proof and an unproven API surface. The recommendation is "adopt with ownership," not "adopt and forget." Frame the decision as who maintains it, not whether it is good.
