saadj55/filament-copyable
A Filament plugin that makes table columns and text click-to-copy, letting users copy values to the clipboard instantly. Simple to install and configure, it adds handy copy actions and icons to Filament admin panels and resource tables.
Architecture fit: Unchanged. This is a presentation-layer utility for Filament admin panels. It adds copy-to-clipboard behavior to fields and columns and does not touch domain logic, persistence, or APIs. Architectural impact remains low. The capability is thin enough to replicate with a small Alpine.js directive or Filament action, which still weakens the case for a long-term dependency.
Integration feasibility: Still gated on Filament version compatibility. Release v0.1.4 ("fix composer version") is a packaging/metadata patch: it corrects version constraints in composer.json and introduces no new functionality. It is meaningful in two narrow ways: the package is no longer frozen at the 2022-10-12 release, and the gating artifact in this assessment — the Composer constraint — has been touched. It is not evidence of Filament v3 support, and a one-line release note carries no migration guidance, changelog detail, or test coverage claims. With 36 stars and zero dependents, community evidence of compatibility with current Laravel/Filament stacks is still absent.
Technical risk: Medium-to-high, unchanged in substance. Primary risk remains version incompatibility and effective abandonment; the patch release marginally reduces the abandonment signal but does not retire it. A constraint fix can also shift dependency resolution in ways that are only visible at install time, so the version must be pinned and verified rather than assumed. Secondary risks are unchanged: browser clipboard restrictions, secure-context requirements, accessibility gaps, and accidental copying of sensitive values. MIT licensing still permits a fork, and forking for this feature remains worse than building internally.
Key questions:
navigator.clipboard is unavailable or permission is denied?Stack fit: Laravel + Filament admin, unchanged. The feature is entirely client-side with no backend service dependency. If compatible, installation is a standard Composer package add plus Filament component usage.
Migration path: For a Filament v2 application, the package may now be installable as-is where the prior constraint blocked it; low effort. For Filament v3+, still assume incompatibility until proven otherwise — v0.1.4 does not claim support. The safer path remains treating the package as a reference implementation and building a small internal copyable column/field using Alpine.js and the Clipboard API, or a Filament action that copies a value. If adopted, pin the exact version and isolate usage.
Compatibility: Diff the v0.1.4 composer.json against the prior tag before drawing any conclusion — a "fix" may narrow, widen, or merely re-tag. Verify requirements for PHP, Laravel, Filament, Livewire, and Alpine, then test against the exact Filament version in staging. Check whether the package relies on deprecated Filament APIs or asset registration patterns. Validate browser behavior for secure contexts and clipboard permissions.
Sequencing:
Maintenance: Low code footprint. v0.1.4 shows minimal but non-zero upstream activity, which slightly improves the outlook without establishing a maintenance commitment or roadmap. Any Filament major upgrade is still likely to require a fork or replacement. For a long-lived admin panel, in-house implementation remains the lower-maintenance option.
Support: Community-only. No vendor SLA, no dependents, and a single-line release note that does not function as a changelog. Internal ownership is still required for bug triage, security review, and upgrade compatibility.
Scaling: Negligible server impact because copying is client-side. Large Filament tables may see minor DOM/Alpine overhead from per-row copy controls, but this is unlikely to be material.
Failure modes: Clipboard API unavailable in insecure contexts or older browsers; permission denied; silent copy failure; no user feedback; sensitive data copied to clipboard; UI clutter in dense tables; accessibility gaps for keyboard/screen-reader users; Composer conflict or unexpected dependency resolution after a constraint change; runtime error after a Filament upgrade.
Ramp-up: Minimal for developers familiar with Filament and Alpine. Product/ops effort is mainly policy: defining which fields are copyable, whether copied values are sensitive, and what user feedback is required. If building internally, estimate roughly half a developer-day to one developer-day for implementation and testing. Add a short verification step for the v0.1.4 constraint diff before any adoption decision.
