Ruwork Bundle Laravel Package

ruvents/ruwork-bundle

RuWorkBundle by Ruvents is a Symfony bundle that collects reusable services, helpers, and integrations for common RuWork application needs. It helps standardize shared infrastructure and configuration, reducing boilerplate across Symfony projects and making consistent building blocks easier to reuse...

Getting Started

  • Install or upgrade with an explicit constraint: composer require vendor/package:^0.2. If upgrading from 0.1.x, run composer require vendor/package:^0.2 --with-dependencies on a branch and commit the lockfile change separately.
  • Look first at the package README and the @Redirect directive source plus its tests. The 0.2.0 notes explicitly say @Redirect was redesigned, so older blog posts and examples may no longer match the current argument order or accepted values.
  • Start with one small Blade view that conditionally redirects, render it, and confirm the output before rolling the directive out across templates. Treat that single view as your upgrade smoke test.
  • Check composer.json and the service provider for the package's Laravel version constraints. A 0.2.0 refactor may have moved the provider or changed auto-discovery behaviour.

Implementation Patterns

  • Use the directive for presentation-level redirects in Blade and keep business-logic redirects in controllers or form requests. Mixing the two makes redirect behaviour hard to trace.
  • Prefer named routes over hard-coded URLs in @Redirect arguments so route changes do not break views. Keep arguments explicit rather than relying on positional defaults that may have changed in the redesign.
  • If 0.2.0 added config-driven defaults or a fluent API, put environment-specific targets in config and reserve the directive for view-specific cases. Publish and review the config file rather than assuming defaults.
  • Test directive usage with feature tests using assertRedirect, and render Blade views directly to assert the compiled output. Directive bugs often only appear after compilation.
  • Upgrade workflow: create a branch, bump the constraint, run the full test suite, grep views for @Redirect, clear compiled views and caches, then manually smoke-test every occurrence.
  • If the directive appears in many templates, wrap it in a small Blade component or partial. That limits the blast radius of the next redesign and gives you one place to adapt the signature.
  • Pin to ^0.2 in production and read the changelog before moving to ^0.3. Pre-1.0 packages can change directive semantics in minor releases.

Gotchas and Tips

  • The biggest risk in 0.2.0 is the redesigned @Redirect. Argument order, accepted types, and default behaviour may have changed. Grep all views and re-test each usage; watch for arguments that are accepted but silently ignored.
  • "Refactoring" in the release notes usually means moved namespaces or renamed classes. Run composer dump-autoload and check for class-not-found errors after upgrading.
  • Blade directive syntax errors surface as PHP parse errors, not friendly Blade errors. Run php artisan view:clear and inspect the compiled file under storage/framework/views to see exactly what the directive emits.
  • Config and route caching can mask or preserve stale behaviour. Run php artisan optimize:clear after the upgrade, then rebuild caches in the same way your deployment does.
  • If the package registers the directive in a service provider, confirm it is still registered after the refactor. A missing directive often appears as the literal text @Redirect in rendered HTML rather than an exception.
  • Check whether the redesign added new extension points, such as a config file, a fluent builder, or an overridable directive class. Prefer those over hard-coding arguments in templates.
  • Do not assume backward compatibility from a 0.1.x install. Pre-1.0 minor releases are the most likely place for breaking changes, and the release notes here are too sparse to infer the full impact without reading the source.
