Search Doctrine Orm Bundle Laravel Package

rollerworks/search-doctrine-orm-bundle

Rollerworks Search Doctrine ORM Bundle integrates the Rollerworks Search component with Doctrine ORM in Symfony apps, converting user-friendly search input into safe, reusable DQL conditions. It handles field mapping, query conversion, and request parsing for fast, flexible entity filtering.

Getting Started

  1. Install with composer require vendor/package after checking the package’s Laravel/PHP constraints in its composer.json.
  2. Laravel should auto-discover the service provider. Confirm with php artisan package:discover and php artisan about.
  3. Publish config, migrations, or assets only if the README instructs it, e.g. php artisan vendor:publish --provider="Vendor\Package\PackageServiceProvider".
  4. First use case: resolve the package’s primary class from the container in php artisan tinker (app(PrimaryClass::class)) and run one read-only operation end to end.
  5. Before integrating, read the package README, CHANGELOG, and any UPGRADING file in vendor/.

Implementation Patterns

  • Wrap package calls behind a small application-level adapter or service. This keeps domain code insulated from future package upgrades.
  • Bind package contracts to your own implementations in a service provider when you need to decorate, swap, or mock behavior.
  • Resolve config at runtime with config() rather than reading it in constructors, so config:cache does not freeze stale values.
  • In feature tests, fake the package’s transport and side effects: Http::fake(), Queue::fake(), Event::fake(), and RefreshDatabase for package migrations.
  • Add a smoke test that boots the app and calls one public package method. This catches most integration breaks after an upgrade.
  • Roll out new package-backed features behind a flag and watch logs before enabling them broadly.
  • Use package artisan commands in deploy scripts only after confirming they are idempotent.

Gotchas and Tips

  • v1.0.0 is the first stable tag. Pin it (vendor/package:1.0.0) and commit composer.lock; expect minor API polish in later 1.x releases.
  • After changing package config, run php artisan config:clear and php artisan cache:clear.
  • Auto-discovery can mask a missing provider in non-standard Laravel setups. If package:discover does not list it, register the provider manually.
  • Publish tags are versioned. Use --tag=package-config and re-publish after upgrades only when the changelog says the published files changed.
  • Debug container resolution with app()->bound(...) and php artisan tinker; avoid editing files in vendor/.
  • Look for extension points before forking: interfaces, events, macros, and manager extend() methods are common in Laravel packages.
  • If the package wraps HTTP, check timeout and retry config, and verify it respects Laravel’s Http client fakes in tests.
