Filament Model Settings Laravel Package

quadrubo/filament-model-settings

Filament plugin for managing per-model settings in your admin panel. It adds a settings page and reusable form component so you can store, edit, and read model-specific configuration values directly from Filament with a simple API.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • "Make it configurable" requests without engineering cycles. This package (Quadrubo/filament-model-settings) adds a Filament admin UI on top of Eloquent-backed settings, so ops/support/admin users can change values (branding, copy, thresholds, feature toggles, notification defaults, integration endpoints) without a ticket, migration, or deploy. Each such request in the backlog is a candidate to resolve this way instead of building one-off settings screens.
  • Build vs. buy for settings infrastructure. Replaces the recurring "custom settings table + admin CRUD + typing/validation + cache invalidation" build. Typical in-house equivalent is roughly 1–3 weeks of initial engineering plus ongoing maintenance; this is a small, focused dependency instead.
  • Multi-tenant and plan-tier roadmap. Settings scoped per model/tenant are the plumbing for white-labeling, per-customer configuration, and plan-differentiated behavior. Useful when deciding whether tenant customization is a Q+ investment or a cheap add-on.
  • Feature-flag posture (limited). Good for static, admin-edited toggles. Not a substitute for a targeting/experimentation platform — that decision should stay separate.
  • Backlog triage and scoping. Settings that are low-cardinality, typed, and human-edited are cheap to ship via this path; high-volume, per-request runtime config and secrets are explicitly out of scope and stay with engineering/platform.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt when:

  • The product is already on Laravel + Filament (v3/v4-era stack); the value proposition collapses without a Filament admin panel.
  • Settings are few, structured, and human-edited — dozens, not thousands — and plausibly scoped per tenant/team/entity.
  • You want settings in the database with typed properties and form validation, versionable and editable at runtime, rather than .env/config files requiring a deploy.
  • Non-technical stakeholders need self-serve control and you accept the permission/authorization review that comes with it.
  • You can accept a single-maintainer, small open-source dependency — pin the version, keep the settings schema in your own repo, and treat the package as replaceable.

Look elsewhere when:

  • There is no Filament in the stack, or the admin surface is bespoke.
  • Configuration must be read on every request at high volume — you'd need your own caching/edge story; evaluate carefully before adopting.
  • You need secrets management (vault/parameter store), full audit trails, scheduled or staged config rollouts, or approval workflows — none of that is the package's job.
  • You need targeted/experimental feature flags — use a dedicated flag service (LaunchDarkly, Flagsmith, Pennant for simpler cases).
  • Your settings model is deeply nested or schema-heavy and would outgrow a form-based editor; class-based settings (spatie/laravel-settings) or typed config objects may fit better.
  • Bus factor or long-term support is a hard constraint — be prepared to fork or reimplement; the surface area is small enough that this is viable.

On v2.0.1: a patch-level release with no breaking changes, deprecations, or new capabilities indicated. No migration or re-evaluation work is required; it does not change the recommendation above beyond confirming the package is actively maintained.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives (one paragraph): We're evaluating a small open-source add-on for our Filament admin panel that lets non-engineers change product configuration — branding, copy, thresholds, toggles, per-customer settings — directly, instead of filing engineering tickets. It replaces a recurring piece of custom infrastructure we'd otherwise build and maintain, and takes routine "can we change this setting?" work off the engineering backlog. Cost of adoption is low (days of integration) and it's easily reversible: the surface area is small and settings live in our own database. The just-published v2.0.1 is a routine maintenance patch with no breaking changes, so there is no re-work or migration. Main caveat: it's a single-maintainer package and is not a fit for secrets, high-volume runtime config, or experiment-grade feature flagging — those should stay with engineering.

For engineering: Low-risk, narrow dependency. Adds a Filament plugin plus settings tables; settings are Eloquent models with typed properties and form validation. Work required: migration/table design, authorization and policy review on who can edit what, cache invalidation strategy for read paths, and a version pin. Keep settings definitions in our repo so the package remains swappable. Do not use it for credentials or per-request high-frequency reads without a caching layer. Patch release 2.0.1 requires no action.

Recommendation: Adopt for internal/admin-facing configuration in our Filament apps; defer for customer-facing high-throughput config and keep secrets and experimentation on dedicated tooling.
