Crud Generator Laravel Package

pirulug/crud-generator

Pirulug CRUD Generator scaffolds full Laravel CRUD interfaces from your existing models and database tables, generating controllers, routes, views, and forms so you can skip repetitive boilerplate and start building features faster.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Build vs. buy for CRUD/admin scaffolding. This package converts "write another controller + model + validation + resource by hand" into a generator run. For teams shipping many similar resources (settings tables, lookups, internal admin panels), the decision shifts from "can we afford to build it" to "do we standardize on generated output." Generated code lives in your repo, so there is no runtime lock-in — the buy decision is low-regret.
  • Time-to-market on internal tools and admin surfaces. Validation rule inference (email, integer, numeric, uuid, date) and API Resource toArray() generation remove the two most commonly skipped steps in fast scaffolding. That directly shortens the path from schema to a demoable endpoint, which matters for roadmap commitments on internal/back-office work.
  • Framework upgrade planning. v2.0.0 explicitly supports Laravel 10.x–13.x on PHP 8.2+. This is a usable data point when deciding whether to schedule the Laravel 12/13 upgrade this cycle: a dev-tooling dependency that tracks the framework removes one blocker from the upgrade checklist.
  • Internationalization as a first-class requirement. English and Spanish translations shipping in-box, with vendor:publish --tag=crud-lang, means generated UI is locale-ready without a follow-up ticket. Relevant if Spanish-speaking markets or support teams are on the roadmap.
  • CI reliability and developer-experience investment. The fix for command exit codes (returning 0 on success) plus the Orchestra Testbench suite are the kind of changes that stop silently-broken pipelines. Worth noting when justifying spend on tooling hygiene.
  • Convention enforcement. Route Model Binding and standardized Bootstrap/Tailwind stubs in generated controllers mean the codebase converges on one pattern regardless of who runs the generator — a lever for reducing review overhead and onboarding time.
  • Deprecation/breaking-change triage. The move to 2-space indentation across source and stubs changes generated output byte-for-byte. Any already-generated code that teams re-run will produce large cosmetic diffs. This is a "do not blanket-regenerate before a release freeze" decision, not a blocker.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt when:

  • You are on Laravel 10+ and PHP 8.2+ — v2.0.0 raises the floor, so older apps are now excluded.
  • Your backlog contains repetitive resource-shaped work (CRUD endpoints, admin tables) where consistency matters more than bespoke design.
  • You want generated code you own rather than a runtime admin-panel dependency — this is the low-lock-in option.
  • You need Spanish and English out of the box.
  • You value a maintained test suite as a proxy for upgrade safety, especially with Laravel 13 support claimed.

Look elsewhere when:

  • The product differentiator is the UI/UX of these screens — generator stubs are a starting point, not a design system.
  • Your domain is non-CRUD (event-driven, heavy integrations, complex state machines); the value drops sharply.
  • You are on PHP < 8.2 or Laravel < 10 — v2.0.0 is not for you, and pinning to an older major means carrying an unsupported branch.
  • You have strict code-style gates (e.g., 4-space, Pint config with conflicting rules) — the standardized 2-space stubs will fight your formatter unless you customize published stubs.
  • You need enterprise support/SLAs; evaluate the maintainer's responsiveness rather than assuming it.
  • You are mid-freeze: regenerating existing resources now creates noisy diffs across the codebase.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

To executives: This is a small, low-risk developer-productivity dependency that reduces the hand-written boilerplate behind every admin screen and internal API endpoint. v2.0.0 is a maturity release: a real automated test suite, official support for the current and next Laravel versions, and fixes that make it safe to run in CI. It is not a platform bet — the code it produces is ours and lives in our repo, so we can walk away at any time.

To engineering: Upgrade is straightforward but not free. Requirements move to PHP 8.2+ / Laravel 10+, generated controllers now use Route Model Binding, API Resources emit fields in toArray(), and validation rules are inferred for common types. The catch: stubs and source are now uniformly 2-space, so re-running the generator over existing resources will produce large cosmetic diffs — do that in a dedicated PR, not mixed with feature work. Exit codes now return 0 on success, so any script that relied on the old (buggy) non-zero behavior needs a quick check. Spanish/English translations are publishable via vendor:publish --tag=crud-lang.

Recommendation: Adopt for new internal CRUD work now; schedule a separate, isolated regeneration pass for existing resources after the current release freeze. Re-evaluate at the next major Laravel upgrade — support for 13.x is claimed, and the test suite gives us a reasonable signal, but it should be verified against our own app before we plan around it.
