Mcp Bundle Laravel Package

php-llm/mcp-bundle

A Symfony bundle that turns your app into a Model Context Protocol server for AI clients. Register tools, resources, and prompts with PHP attributes, then expose them over JSON-RPC transports such as stdio and HTTP.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Exposing your Laravel product to AI agents (MCP server capability): This bundle is the fastest path to letting Claude, Cursor, or other MCP-aware clients call into your application's domain logic as tools — a concrete "AI-agent-ready" checkbox for your roadmap without building a bespoke protocol layer.
  • Build vs. buy for AI integrations: Strongly favors buy/adopt over build. The MCP handshake, tool schema negotiation, and transport plumbing are commodity work; the bundle lets your team spend its effort on which tools to expose and their authorization rather than protocol conformance.
  • Agent-to-agent / outbound orchestration features: The 0.1 addition of client transports means the package now covers both directions — your app can consume external MCP servers, not just serve them. This unlocks roadmap items like "our product orchestrates third-party AI tools" or internal tool-router workflows.
  • Prioritizing which surface area to expose first: Because adoption is cheap, the real PM decision shifts from "can we do this?" to "which 3–5 workflows are worth exposing as tools, and what's the permission model around each?" Treat the package as a multiplier on scoping work you already need to do.
  • Competitive/positioning signal: Shipping an MCP endpoint is increasingly a procurement and integration question in enterprise deals. Low cost to enable, non-trivial upside in demos and RFP responses.

When to Consider This Package

  • Adopt when: you're on Laravel (or Symfony, given the bundle lineage), you have a stable domain/integration layer worth exposing, and you want MCP support scoped in days rather than quarters.
  • Adopt for prototyping and internal tooling first: the release notes explicitly add a WIP disclaimer — treat 0.1 as evaluation-grade, not a production commitment. Good for a spike, a demo, an internal agent tool; not yet for a customer-facing SLA surface.
  • Watch the version pin: 0.1 limits the bundle to mcp-sdk version 0.1. That's a tight coupling — expect the upgrade path to move in lockstep with the underlying SDK, and budget maintenance attention accordingly. Any roadmap commitment should assume at least one breaking-change cycle before 1.0.
  • Look elsewhere when: you need a guaranteed-stable API contract today, you're not on the Laravel/Symfony stack, your security model can't yet express per-tool authorization and audit, or your AI integration needs are one-off and better served by a direct SDK call.
  • Avoid for compliance-gated surfaces until you've reviewed how tool invocation, credential scoping, and logging are handled end to end.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives: We can make our product callable by AI assistants — and let it call other AI tools — using a small, maintained open-source integration rather than a custom build. Cost is measured in days of engineering, not a program. It's currently at an early 0.1 release that the maintainers themselves label work-in-progress, so the right ask is a scoped evaluation and demo, not a committed GA timeline.

For engineering: This is a thin bundle over the mcp-sdk, pinned to SDK 0.1. Release 0.1 gives us client transports (outbound MCP) alongside the existing server capability, which is the more strategically interesting half. Risks are explicit: pre-1.0 API instability, a hard dependency on the SDK's release cadence, and no production-hardening guarantee yet. Recommend a timeboxed spike on one internal workflow to validate the tool-authoring ergonomics and the auth story before we plan anything customer-facing.

Decision requested: approve a short evaluation spike (one workflow, one engineer) with a readout on stability, security posture, and upgrade cost — no production commitment at this stage.
