Laravel Filesystem Qiniu Laravel Package

overtrue/laravel-filesystem-qiniu

Qiniu cloud storage adapter for Laravel's filesystem. Add Qiniu Kodo as a disk in filesystems.php and use the familiar Storage API—put, get, url, delete—with no custom code. Composer install, config-driven setup, modern Laravel support. Ideal for apps needing fast CDN-backed object storage.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Framework upgrade sequencing. v3.0.0 supports Laravel 13 only, with no dual-version support. This package now sits directly on the critical path of a Laravel 13 migration: either the migration unblocks the package upgrade, or the package upgrade forces the migration. Use it as a milestone input when sequencing platform work, not as an independent backlog item.
  • Dependency and version-pinning policy. A major version that hard-drops older framework support is a forcing function. This release supports the decision to adopt an explicit pinning/support-matrix policy for third-party packages (e.g., pin to a major, review on each major, track upstream framework EOL dates) rather than floating constraints.
  • Build vs. buy weighting. The release adds a modernized test stack and CI. That is a maintenance-health signal — modest, but it is the main evidence available for judging whether the package is actively kept current versus abandoned. Weigh it against the cost of a forced upgrade when comparing against in-house glue code.
  • Support-matrix commitments for our own product. If we ship on top of this package, its Laravel 13-only stance constrains the framework versions we can credibly claim to support. This feeds directly into customer-facing compatibility statements and enterprise procurement questionnaires.
  • Risk register entry. A major version that narrows support is a recurring-cost signal. Track upgrade cadence and maintenance activity as a low-severity, recurring-risk item rather than a one-off.

Caveat: this assessment is derived from release metadata (version bump, supported framework range, test/CI changes) only — not from a feature-level review. Treat the product-fit judgments below as directionally sound but unvalidated until someone exercises the package against a real Laravel 13 application.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt or upgrade when:

  • You are on, or committed to, Laravel 13. This is now a hard requirement. There is no supported path for earlier versions in v3.
  • You want dependency releases backed by CI. The updated test stack and added CI pipeline are a reasonable proxy for release quality and reduce the chance of shipping a broken minor.
  • The package's role in your stack is replaceable-but-annoying. The v3 support cut is only cheap if the migration cost is contained. Confirm the blast radius before committing.

Look elsewhere, or deliberately stay put, when:

  • You are staying on Laravel 11/12 for the foreseeable future. v3 is simply not an option. You would pin to the last v2.x release and accept that upstream fixes and security patches may not flow — a decision that needs an explicit owner and a review date, not a silent composer.json pin.
  • You need overlapping framework support during a transition. A single-version support window means the package cannot bridge a staggered migration across multiple services on different Laravel versions. If your estate is mid-migration, this package will be the last thing to move, not the first.
  • You require a published support policy or LTS guarantees. Nothing in the release notes indicates a formal support window or backport commitment. If procurement needs that, look for alternatives with stated policies.
  • The package is peripheral. A forced framework upgrade is a poor reason to accelerate a platform migration for something non-critical. Consider removing it instead.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives (one paragraph): This is a small third-party dependency that has just released a major version. The headline is not new functionality — it is a narrowing of support: the new version works only with the newest Laravel release. Practically, that means this package will follow our framework upgrade rather than lead it, and it gives us one more concrete reason to schedule that upgrade. Cost and risk are both low, but the decision should be made deliberately: upgrade alongside Laravel 13, or pin to the previous major and accept that we stop receiving fixes. The release also adds automated testing and CI, which is a positive maintenance signal.

For engineering leads:

  • Breaking change is version support only — Laravel 13 required, earlier versions dropped. No dual-support window. Plan the bump as part of the Laravel 13 workstream, not separately.
  • The added test stack and CI are the substantive quality improvement in this release. Expect better release hygiene going forward; also expect the maintainer to track upstream Laravel releases closely, which means our upgrade cadence becomes coupled to theirs.
  • Before merging: confirm transitive dependency resolution under Laravel 13, check for any Laravel 12-era workarounds in our code that can now be removed, and verify our own test suite covers the integration points so the upgrade is validated rather than assumed.
  • If we defer, pin explicitly to the last v2.x, document the reason, and set a review date tied to our Laravel 13 timeline. Avoid an unpinned constraint that could pull v3 in silently.

Recommendation: Adopt v3.0.0 as part of the Laravel 13 migration. If that migration is not funded this cycle, pin to v2.x with a named owner and a review date. Do not leave the constraint floating.
