Product Decisions This Supports

  • Whether to build conditional/dependent logic into admin action modals. Nova actions render a modal of fields; this package targets the case where what should appear in that modal depends on what the user picked (dependent dropdowns, show/hide fields, fields populated from another selection). The decision it informs is: do we buy this behavior off the shelf, or do we build it, or do we get it natively?
  • Build vs. buy for internal admin UX. Internal tooling (support consoles, ops workflows, data-correction actions) rarely justifies custom Vue. A package that adds dynamic fields to Nova actions could cut days of frontend work per admin surface — but only if it's safe to depend on.
  • Roadmap and platform-upgrade sequencing. The php <= 7.3.0 constraint is effectively a compatibility statement: this package cannot run on any currently supported Laravel/PHP combination. Adopting it would pin a slice of our admin stack to a legacy platform and constrain the upgrade roadmap.
  • Reuse of an existing pattern rather than an existing dependency. The design (dynamic modal fields for actions) is a legitimate pattern worth studying; the artifact itself is not a dependency we should ship.
  • Risk posture for privileged surfaces. Admin panels execute privileged actions on real data. A dependency there is a security and maintenance decision, not just a UI decision.

When to Consider This Package

Only consider it if all of the following are true:

  • The application is genuinely frozen on PHP <= 7.3 and Nova 3.x, with no upgrade on the roadmap.
  • The need is a narrow internal admin modal with conditional fields, and the alternative is a custom Vue component plus backend validation work.
  • Legal/compliance has independently cleared the license ambiguity (NOASSERTION means we cannot confirm terms — this must be resolved before any production use, not after).
  • Someone on the team is willing to own a fork, because the upstream is a single maintainer, last released December 2021, with zero stars and zero dependents.

Look elsewhere when:

  • You are on Nova 4 or 5. Nova added native field dependencies (dependsOn, hideWhen, readonlyWhen) precisely for this problem. The package's core value proposition is largely subsumed by the platform — this is the decisive point.
  • You are on PHP 8.x or any Laravel version released after 2021. The constraint alone disqualifies it.
  • The modal fields are dynamic server-side only. An action's fields() method can already be computed per-request; check whether the requirement is truly client-side reactivity before reaching for a package.
  • Any of these apply: production or customer-facing admin, audit/compliance scope, security patching obligations, or a need for vendor support. Zero dependents means no community validation, no production signal, and no bus factor beyond one.
  • You need security patching. An unmaintained package in an admin panel is an unpatched attack surface with no upgrade path when Nova or Laravel changes.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

Recommendation: do not adopt as a production dependency. Use it as a reference implementation, or use native Nova features.

  • For executives: This is a small, unmaintained, single-maintainer package with no adoption (0 stars, 0 dependents), a release frozen in 2021, an unresolved license (NOASSERTION), and a hard PHP <= 7.3 ceiling. The capability it provides is now native in current Nova versions. Buying here adds legal and security exposure to save roughly the effort of one small field component — a poor trade.
  • For engineering: The requirement is legitimate — dynamic fields inside action modals for internal tooling. The right answer is Nova 4+ field dependencies if we're upgrading, or a small in-house field component with server-side validation enforced in the action's handle() method. The package's php <= 7.3 constraint means any adoption also pins our platform upgrade; a fork would be ours to maintain forever.
  • Cost of the alternative: Low. One component, one validation rule set, and a documented pattern — versus indefinite ownership of an abandoned dependency inside our privileged admin surface.
  • If we must use it: Isolate it behind a single action, treat it as internal-only, get the license cleared in writing, and record it on the technical-debt register with an owner and an exit date.
