Mailjet Bundle Laravel Package

mailjet/mailjet-bundle

Mailjet Bundle integrates the Mailjet email service into Symfony, providing a configured API client, mailer transport, and services for sending transactional email and managing contacts, templates, and campaigns through Symfony's dependency injection and configuration system.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • ESP vendor selection (the real decision). This bundle is not the decision — Mailjet is. Whether we send transactional and marketing email through Mailjet versus Amazon SES, SendGrid, Postmark, or Resend depends on deliverability reputation, pricing at our volume, template and contact-list capabilities, and webhook/tooling fit. The bundle is a disposable adapter; the vendor contract and sending reputation are the durable commitment.
  • Adopting Mailjet vs. building the integration ourselves. Because the bundle is a thin, MIT-licensed layer over the official mailjet-apiv3-php SDK, the "build vs. buy" question is small and cheap either way. What we are really buying with the bundle is convenience in a Symfony container — and a PM should know that convenience is the only thing on offer.
  • Integration effort sizing for the roadmap. Email is a small, well-bounded workstream: transactional send, sender identity, templating, bounce/webhook handling. Sizing this correctly (days, not weeks) lets us sequence password resets, receipts, onboarding sequences, and notification digests accurately against other commitments.
  • Scope decision: transactional email now, marketing email later. The bundle exposes the full V3 client (send, templates, contacts, campaigns), not just sends. That supports a phased roadmap where marketing automation is a later phase reusing the same vendor relationship — but without assuming the bundle provides the marketing features themselves.
  • Framework-fit / reclassification decision. As a PM, the most important call here is to relabel this artifact internally: for a Laravel codebase it is not a dependency to be adopted but a reference implementation to be read. That prevents a sprint from being lost to a composer require that cannot resolve, and it forces the question "what is our actual Laravel mail integration?" onto the roadmap explicitly.
  • Risk posture on third-party code. 33 stars, 0 dependents, last release June 2019, and a low opportunity score are decision-grade signals, not trivia. They justify a standing policy: keep vendor integrations behind our own thin interface, treat micro-packages as disposable, and never build product logic on top of an unmaintained abstraction.

When to Consider This Package

Consider it if:

  • The product runs on Symfony (not Laravel), we are already leaning toward Mailjet, and we want quick service-container wiring for credentials plus an injectable V3 client.
  • We need a low-commitment spike to validate Mailjet's send, template, and contact-list APIs before committing to a plan tier or annual contract.
  • Our requirement is simple transactional send plus template fetch, with no reliance on API behavior or auth changes introduced after 2019.
  • We are porting an existing Symfony application that already uses the bundle, where the cost of removal outweighs the cost of leaving it in place.

Look elsewhere if:

  • We are on Laravel — this bundle does not plug into Laravel's service-provider model; use mailjet/laravel-mailjet, Symfony Mailer's Mailjet transport, or the official SDK directly.
  • We need maintained dependencies, security patching, or support SLAs. A 2019 last release with zero dependents is effectively unmaintained; assume we own the code if adopted.
  • We want the default path: the official mailjet-apiv3-php SDK or a framework-native transport gives us maintenance coverage and costs us only a little convenience.
  • We need modern PHP/Symfony compatibility or Mailjet V3 features added after 2019 — the wrapper likely lags both.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives: This is a small, free (MIT) integration library that connects a Symfony codebase to Mailjet's email API. It is a convenience layer, not a strategic asset — a few dozen lines of service wiring around Mailjet's official SDK — and it is effectively dormant (last release 2019, negligible adoption, no dependents). Adopting it does not lock us in: our real commitment is the Mailjet account, sending reputation, and plan tier, and switching providers later means rewriting only this adapter. The practical recommendation for a Laravel product is that we do not take this as a dependency; we read it as a reference and build a thin adapter over the official SDK, which we own and can maintain. Net: low risk to trial, low risk to abandon, low strategic value — the decision worth escalating is the vendor choice, not the bundle.

For engineering: Treat this as a design reference, not a dependency. For a Laravel app it will almost certainly fail to install and it offers nothing Laravel can consume. Use mailjet/mailjet-apiv3-php behind our own small adapter (service provider, optional mail transport) so calls stay behind our interface and the ESP remains swappable. Keep the integration stateless, queue the sends, and design explicitly for Mailjet 5xx/timeout retries, 4xx fail-fast classification, partial batch failures, and signed webhook ingestion. Budget a short spike, not a project — and spend the saved time on observability and failure-path tests instead.
