Mailerlite Api V2 Php Sdk Laravel Package

mailerlite/mailerlite-api-v2-php-sdk

Official PHP SDK for MailerLite API v2, offering straightforward methods to manage subscribers, groups, campaigns, fields, and automations. Works with Laravel or any PHP app via Composer, with simple client setup and response handling.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Build vs. buy for email marketing plumbing. If your Laravel product needs subscriber list management, campaign sending, or automation triggers, this package is a candidate to buy (integrate) rather than build. It answers the question: "Do we hand-roll MailerLite HTTP calls, or adopt a wrapper?" — deciding this early avoids bespoke glue code that becomes unowned technical debt.
  • Feature eligibility for a MailerLite integration. Supports scoping features like newsletter signup syncing, segment/group management, subscriber CRUD, webhook ingestion, and campaign reporting dashboards — as long as the target account is still on MailerLite Classic.
  • Roadmap and migration sequencing. Because this SDK targets the legacy MailerLite Classic HTTP API v2 and has had no release since August 2021, adopting it creates a known migration item on the roadmap. That is a legitimate product decision ("integrate now, migrate in H2") only if made explicitly, with cost estimated up front.
  • Vendor strategy / lock-in assessment. Informs whether MailerLite stays a strategic email vendor or becomes a replaceable integration behind an internal interface (recommended pattern: wrap this SDK behind your own NewsletterService contract so the vendor is swappable).
  • Support and compliance posture. Relevant to decisions about SLA-backed features, POPIA/GDPR consent flows, and audit trails for marketing consent — all areas where an unmaintained dependency is a governance concern rather than a purely technical one.
  • Use cases where it's genuinely sufficient: internal tools, back-office admin panels, one-off data migrations off MailerLite, low-volume transactional notifications in non-critical paths.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt when:

  • The MailerLite account is confirmed Classic and will remain so for the integration's lifetime (e.g., a legacy product with a sunset date).
  • The integration is non-critical path — marketing list sync, admin-side reporting, internal tooling — with graceful degradation if the endpoint changes.
  • You need something working this sprint and the alternative is blocking a launch; MIT licensing removes procurement friction.
  • You're writing a one-time migration or export job where long-term maintenance is irrelevant.
  • The team already depends on other Classic-era tooling and consistency matters more than modernity.

Look elsewhere when:

  • You are starting a new integration. New MailerLite accounts should target the current MailerLite API. Building on a wrapper whose last release predates the vendor platform migration means you are shipping a dependency that is already behind.
  • You need actively maintained support, security patching, or PHP/Laravel version compatibility guarantees for upcoming framework upgrades (this matters if you plan to track Laravel majors over the next 2–3 years).
  • You require framework-native ergonomics — service provider auto-discovery, config publishing, facades, queues, typed DTOs, retry/backoff handling. This is a thin HTTP wrapper, not a Laravel package; you will write that integration layer yourself.
  • Your requirements include v3-era capabilities (newer automation, e-commerce, or updated endpoint semantics) that simply don't exist on the Classic API.
  • Compliance or procurement review flags unmaintained dependencies. Note also that "official wrapper" status is stale — the vendor's current guidance has moved on, so you cannot rely on vendor support for this code path.

Practical middle path: use it behind an internal interface, pin the version, and budget the replacement.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

Executive summary. This is a small, free (MIT-licensed) PHP library that lets our Laravel application talk to MailerLite — the email marketing platform — without our engineers hand-writing every API call. That saves roughly a few days of engineering on initial build and removes one class of avoidable bugs.

The honest caveat, stated plainly. It wraps MailerLite's Classic API, and it has not been updated since August 2021. MailerLite has since moved its platform forward. Nothing is on fire — the code still works for Classic accounts — but we would be adopting a dependency with an expiry date rather than a foundation. There are 78 GitHub stars and no visible maintenance cadence, so we should not expect fixes.

Recommendation.

  1. Do not adopt this as the long-term backbone of a customer-facing email feature. That is a "buy now, migrate later" decision at best, and we should say so on the roadmap rather than discover it in eighteen months.
  2. Do adopt it for internal tooling, admin-side list management, or a bounded migration/export project — where speed matters and blast radius is small.
  3. Either way, wrap it. Engineering should hide it behind our own newsletter service interface (a day of work) so that swapping the vendor or the SDK is a contained change, not a product rewrite. That single decision converts this from a risk into a commodity.

For engineering: expect to supply the Laravel integration ourselves — service provider, configuration, error handling, retries, and tests. Treat the SDK as a thin HTTP client, not a framework component. Confirm the account tier before committing; if it is not Classic, this package is the wrong tool and we should evaluate current alternatives instead.
