lox/xhprof
XHProf profiling for Laravel. Easily profile requests and inspect performance data with middleware and configuration for enabling or disabling profiling in your application.
This is a developer tooling dependency, not a customer-facing product feature. A PM should treat it as an input to engineering prioritization, not as a differentiator.
Consider it when:
Look elsewhere when:
To executives: This is a low-cost diagnostic tool that can help engineering target performance work where it matters. It is not a strategic platform bet and should not be treated as production infrastructure. The main value is faster, evidence-based decisions about where to invest engineering time.
To engineering: lox/xhprof is a Composer-packaged fork of XHProf that can provide call-graph profiling for PHP/Laravel code. It may be useful for short-lived performance investigations, but it is archived, niche, and not a safe long-term dependency. Adopt it only as a disposable dev/staging tool, pin the version, document the exit path, and avoid putting it on critical production paths. If profiling becomes ongoing, budget for a maintained alternative such as Blackfire, Tideways, or an OpenTelemetry-based approach.
