Search Filament Laravel Package

liberusoftware/search-filament

A Laravel/Filament package by LiberoSoftware that adds flexible, configurable search to your admin panel, letting you query and filter records across resources from one interface. Easy to install and adapt to your app's models, fields, and search needs.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Self-serve search tuning vs. engineering tickets. A Filament presentation adapter implies an admin surface where non-engineers (ops, merchandising, content) can manage search-related configuration — synonyms, boosts, indexed entities, filters — instead of filing a ticket for each change. That's a roadmap decision about whether search relevance is a product feature owned by ops or an engineering capability.
  • Build vs. buy for admin plumbing. The package is glue, not search itself: it adapts a search domain module (module-search) into Filament UI. The buy case is "skip two days of Filament resource scaffolding"; the build case is "we already have panel conventions and don't want a foreign dependency." This is a small, reversible call — treat it as such.
  • Ecosystem bet. Adopting it means adopting the Liberu module family (domain module + presentation adapter + conventions). Deciding to standardize on that stack for back-office is a bigger commitment than the package itself and should be evaluated at the ecosystem level.
  • Filament as the back-office standard. If the team is choosing between Filament, Nova, and bespoke Blade admin, a working adapter is a small piece of evidence that the Filament path is viable for search-adjacent tooling.
  • Scope of what's exposed to operators. The adapter's surface defines which search knobs become product-configurable. That directly shapes support load, incident risk (someone zeroing out a boost in production), and whether you need audit logging, permissions, and approval flows around search config.
  • Internal-tooling investment level. Useful for prioritizing: is search admin a "spike and see" item or a funded, supported internal product?

When to Consider This Package

Consider it when:

  • You are already on Laravel + Filament, and you are already using or committed to liberusoftware/module-search. Without the domain module, the adapter has nothing to present.
  • You need an admin UI for search configuration quickly, and the cost of replacing it later is low (it is a thin presentation layer — the switching cost is mostly re-skinning).
  • The consumer is an internal audience (ops, support, merchandising) where a bug is annoying rather than revenue-critical.
  • You can accept owning the code: with 0 stars, 0 dependents, and a NOASSERTION license, assume you may fork it and maintain it yourself.
  • You want to evaluate the Liberu module pattern for a broader back-office standardization decision.

Look elsewhere when:

  • License clarity is a blocker. NOASSERTION means the terms are not machine-identifiable. For anything shipped to customers, redistributed, or reviewed by legal/procurement, resolve this before writing code against it. This is the single hardest gate.
  • You are not on Filament. The entire value is the Filament presentation; without it there is no reason to take the dependency.
  • You need production-grade search integration. If the real requirement is indexing and querying (Laravel Scout, Meilisearch, Typesense, Algolia, Elasticsearch), use the official first-party packages and build the admin screen yourself.
  • You need support guarantees. Zero dependents and a single-vendor release cadence means no community patch pipeline, no CVE response commitment, no Stack Overflow corpus. Also verify the release metadata — a future-dated release (2026-10-26) is a provenance smell worth checking against tags, CI status, and test coverage before trusting the version you pin.
  • You need auditability and RBAC out of the box. A presentation adapter of this size almost certainly does not ship policy, approval workflow, or change history for search config. If those are requirements, budget for building them on top.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

To executives: This is a small, cheap-to-try adapter that could let operations staff tune search results themselves instead of waiting on engineering. The downside is bounded — it's a presentation layer, so if it doesn't work out we throw it away rather than unwind it. The upside is unproven: the package has essentially no adoption, and its license is unresolved. Recommendation: fund a one-day spike plus a legal license check, not a platform commitment.

To engineering: It's a Filament resource/page layer over module-search — thin, forkable, and low-ceremony. Expect to own it: no dependents, no community, no obvious maintenance bench. Validate that it targets our Filament major version, that it has tests, and that the tagged release matches the repo history. If the spike shows we'd rewrite half of it to match our panel conventions, we build our own in the same amount of time and keep the IP clean.

Ask: approve a short evaluation (spike + license review) with a decision gate at the end — adopt as a dependency, vendor a fork, or build the admin screen in-house. No production dependency until the license question is closed.
