laravel-notification-channels/pubnub
Send Laravel notifications through PubNub realtime messaging. This channel publishes notification payloads to PubNub channels so subscribed clients receive instant updates over WebSockets, with support for per-notifier channel names and publish options.
pubnub channel to a notification's via() array is a low-effort experiment. Good for validating "do users want real-time in-app alerts?" before investing in a bespoke push service.publish() calls through controllers and jobs. Useful if multi-channel delivery (mail + database + push + realtime) is on the roadmap.Consider it when:

Executives: This is a free, MIT-licensed adapter that lets our Laravel backend push real-time notifications into PubNub — the realtime infrastructure we already pay for. It would let us ship in-app alerts without standing up a separate push pipeline. It is not a strategic investment: 10 GitHub stars, zero known dependents, and no release since October 2019. Recommendation: treat it as a reference implementation we fork and own — the whole thing is small enough to read in an afternoon — rather than a dependency we rely on. The decision we actually need is whether PubNub is our realtime vendor. If yes, fund a short spike to validate the adapter against our stack. If no, skip it and use Laravel's built-in broadcast channel.
Engineering: The package adds a pubnub channel to Laravel's notification system, so a notification's via() can include PubNub and delivery goes out through the PubNub PHP SDK. Surface area is tiny. Known risks: unmaintained since 2019, no queue/retry/auth handling, and likely gaps against current Laravel and PHP versions. Plan: fork it, pin it, add tests, and own the Access Manager token handling ourselves. Do not add it to composer.json as an unpinned upstream dependency.
