Number To Words Laravel Package

kwn/number-to-words

Convert numbers and currency amounts to words in PHP. Supports multiple languages via RFC 3066 identifiers, with number and currency transformers. Simple API: create transformers or use static calls to render values like 5120 as “five thousand one hundred twenty”.

  • ROL → RON: Romanian currency code updated from deprecated ROL to current ISO 4217 code RON across all transformers

New Features

  • Base currency list: All currency transformers now support a canonical set of 51 currencies. Previously several transformers had only 2–14 currencies; all now have full coverage
  • MXN (Mexican Peso): Added to all currency transformers that were missing it
  • Malay currency transformer: MalaysianCurrencyTransformer renamed to MalayCurrencyTransformer for naming consistency with MalayNumberTransformer

Bug Fixes

  • Swedish: Fixed capitalized Minus prefix, sjutio → sjuttio (70), missing plural inflection for millions/billions
  • Danish: Missing og connector after hundreds (e.g. et hundrede en → et hundrede og en)
  • German currency: eins Euro → ein Euro for amounts of 1, and ein tausend → eintausend (wrong word separator)
  • Yoruba: Zero returned empty string instead of odo
  • Romanian currency: Negative amounts ignored the minus sign

Test Coverage

  • Added ~120 new test cases across 16 transformers covering: negative numbers, full numeric ranges, and newly added currencies
  • Added MXN test cases in 8 languages (English, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish, French, Danish, Turkish)

CI / Infrastructure

  • Migrated from Code Climate to Qlty.sh for coverage reporting (QLTY_COVERAGE_TOKEN)
  • xdebug now installed via pecl instead of deprecated install-php-extensions (fixes PHP 8.5 support)
  • HTML coverage report saved as CircleCI artifact
  • PHPUnit annotations (@dataProvider) replaced with PHP 8 attributes (#[DataProvider])
  • Data provider methods made public static (PHPUnit 11 requirement)
  • Abstract base test classes renamed: CurrencyTransformerTest → CurrencyTransformerTestCase, NumberTransformerTest → NumberTransformerTestCase

Removed

  • src/Legacy/Numbers/Words/Locale/Uz.php: dead code - Uzbek has its own modern transformer
