kriss/webman-eloquent-ide-helper
Generate IDE helper files for Eloquent models in webman applications, adding accurate phpDoc annotations and type hints for model properties, relationships, scopes, and query builder methods so your editor delivers reliable autocompletion and static analysis.
Architecture fit. kriss/webman-eloquent-ide-helper is a Webman plugin that ports Laravel's barryvdh/laravel-ide-helper model-docblock generation into Webman's console/command system. It targets Eloquent models running on illuminate/database inside Webman (Workerman-based). Architecturally it is a development-time tool, not a runtime dependency: it registers console commands, introspects Eloquent models and the DB schema, and writes @property/@method docblocks plus an optional _ide_helper artifact. Coupling to application code is limited to command registration and model namespace discovery, which makes it a low-blast-radius addition to an existing plugin stack.
Integration feasibility. Straightforward for teams already using Eloquent within Webman. It is installed as a require-dev dependency, registered in config/plugin/ (ideally under a dev-only config), and invoked via php webman commands. No application bootstrap changes, no service container bindings, no middleware. For teams using Webman's default think-orm or raw webman/database, the plugin is not applicable, which narrows the addressable audience considerably.
Technical risk.
illuminate/database and Webman's plugin/console APIs; either upstream bump can break generation silently (a dev tool fails quietly, not loudly).Key questions.
think-orm/webman/database models?illuminate/database majors are constrained, and does that match our pinned version?Stack fit. Requires PHP 8.x, Webman 1.x/2.x, webman/console, and an Eloquent-based data layer (illuminate/database, typically via webman/eloquent or a custom capsule bootstrap). It sits alongside existing Webman plugins with no conflicting service registrations. Teams that migrated from Laravel will recognize the command surface (ide-helper:models, ide-helper:generate) and the resulting artifacts.
Migration path. No migration is required — this is additive. For Laravel-origin teams, the mental model transfers directly: replace php artisan ide-helper:models with the Webman console equivalent. For greenfield Webman projects, adopt it at project scaffolding time so docblocks exist before the model layer grows, avoiding a large one-shot generation diff later.
Compatibility. Two axes must be verified before adoption:
config/plugin/ and picks up commands via webman/console.illuminate/database major; a mismatch is the most likely failure point and typically manifests as missing or partially generated docblocks rather than a hard error. Also confirm PHP version constraints and whether the plugin emits a sidecar helper file (safe to .gitignore) versus in-place model docblocks (committed, reviewable diffs). The latter is preferable for long-term maintainability but increases PR noise.
Sequencing.
require-dev; do not ship in production builds..gitignore the helper file and regenerate locally.Maintenance. The primary cost is dependency watch, not code upkeep. Single maintainer, 14 stars, 0 dependents means no ecosystem buffer: if the repo goes dormant or breaks against a new Illuminate major, we own the fix. Mitigations: pin an exact version, snapshot the resolved lockfile, and keep a fork-ready posture. Budget roughly a half-day per Illuminate major bump to validate or patch.
Support. Community support is effectively GitHub issues only. No vendor SLA, no paid tier. Internal ownership should be assigned to whichever engineer owns the data layer; treat it as a "convenience tool with an owner," not a core platform dependency.
Scaling. Negligible from an infrastructure standpoint — it runs on developer machines and optionally in CI, with runtime proportional to model count and schema size. For a few hundred models, generation completes in seconds. There is no request-path, memory, or concurrency surface. The only "scaling" concern is organizational: as the model count and number of apps grows, generation time and docblock churn grow linearly, and per-app namespace configuration becomes the friction point.
Failure modes.
Ramp-up. Low for anyone who has used Laravel's ide-helper: roughly 30–60 minutes to install, register, generate, and document. Teams new to both Webman's plugin model and Eloquent-on-Workerman should budget half a day, primarily to understand where generation reads its DB connection from and what gets written to disk. Given the low stars and zero dependents, adoption should be framed explicitly as a low-risk, low-reward developer-ergonomics bet — valuable for IDE autocomplete and static analysis on Eloquent models, but not something to build critical workflows on top of without a fork strategy.
