kamisama/php-resque-ex
Redis-backed background job processing for PHP. Enqueue jobs and run workers to process them asynchronously, with queue management, logging, and failure handling. An enhanced fork of php-resque with extra features and fixes for production use.

Look elsewhere when:
To executives: This is a low-cost, MIT-licensed way to move slow work out of user-facing requests—improving perceived performance without buying new infrastructure, since it runs on Redis we likely already operate. The trade-off is maintenance risk: the project is archived, so it is a tactical enabler, not a strategic platform. Recommend adoption only with an explicit owner, a fork/vendor copy we control, and a planned migration path.
To engineering: It's a PHP port of Resque with phpredis support and enhanced logging—simple worker + queue semantics, easy to reason about, easy to self-host. Because it's unmaintained, we should vendor or fork it, pin and audit the code, verify PHP 8.x compatibility, and add it to our dependency-risk register. If we're on modern Laravel or Symfony, argue for the framework-native queue instead and keep this only as a fallback for legacy services.
