joy/voyager-import
Voyager Import brings flexible CSV and Excel importing to Laravel Voyager admin panels. Map uploaded columns to BREAD models, validate each row, and bulk-insert records through a clean, configurable interface built for everyday admin use.
Consider it when all of the following hold:
Look elsewhere when:
maatwebsite/excel (Laravel Excel) directly with queued, chunked readers and explicit transaction boundaries — you get the same underlying capability with a maintained, widely adopted core and full control over failure semantics. To executives: This is a small, free, MIT-licensed add-on that gives our existing admin panel spreadsheet import in days instead of a custom build. The opportunity is real but narrow: it removes a recurring ops friction point at near-zero cost and lets us defer a larger data-pipeline investment until we see actual demand. The trade-off is maturity — it is a single-maintainer package with minimal adoption, so we should scope it to internal, non-sensitive data and keep an exit path. Recommend a time-boxed pilot on one internal dataset, with a go/no-go review.
To engineering: It is a thin Voyager module layered on the existing BREAD system — low integration cost if we are already on Voyager, essentially zero if we are not. Before committing, confirm Laravel/Voyager version compatibility and read the source; it is small enough to audit. Treat it as a pinned dependency behind our own import abstraction so we can swap to Laravel Excel or a fork without touching business logic. Do not let it become the reason we stay on Voyager, and do not route customer-facing or regulated data through it.
Bottom line: worth a low-cost, reversible trial for internal back-office imports; not worth building a product surface on.
