jeffersongoncalves/filament-whatsapp-widget
Filament WhatsApp Widget provides a simple WhatsApp chat widget for Filament panels. Add a ready-to-use contact button so users can start a WhatsApp conversation directly from your Laravel admin or app interface.
Architecture fit. filament-whatsapp-widget is a presentation-layer Filament plugin: it registers a panel plugin and renders a floating WhatsApp contact button inside the admin panel UI. It owns no domain logic, persistence, queues, or auth surface. That makes it architecturally cheap to adopt and cheap to remove — it sits at the outermost edge of the stack. The real dependency weight is delegated to the underlying laravel-whatsapp-widget package, which this release moves from ^1.0 to ^2.0.
What 1.4.0 actually changes. Two things matter, and they are of very different sizes:
jeffersongoncalves/laravel-whatsapp-widget moves ^1.0 → ^2.0. A major version on the package that actually holds the WhatsApp number/link configuration is the one thing in this release that can break an existing install. Whether it does depends on whether v2 changed config keys, published config filenames, or the public API surface the Filament plugin consumes. The release notes do not say — this is the primary open question.Everything else in the changelog (FUNDING.yml, Buy Me a Coffee link, changelog workflow standardization, Dependabot group bumps) is maintainer hygiene with no consumer impact.
Integration feasibility. Straightforward for any team already on Filament: composer require, register the plugin in the panel provider, optionally publish config, set the phone number/message. No migrations, no new services, no infrastructure. Estimated effort in the low single-digit hours for a developer fluent in Filament.
Technical risk. Moderate-low, concentrated in three places:
laravel-whatsapp-widget ^1.0 (directly or via another plugin from the same author family), Composer will refuse to install 1.4.0. Check composer why before planning the upgrade.Key questions for the maintainer / to answer internally:
laravel-whatsapp-widget v2, and does 1.4.0 require any config or code changes for existing users?composer.json?Stack fit. Assumes a Filament admin panel (v3/v4 generation) on Laravel 10–12, PHP 8.1+. The plugin is a leaf node — it does not touch our models, policies, or jobs, so it fits any panel regardless of domain architecture. If the project is not on Filament, this package has no applicability and the evaluation ends here.
Migration path (from 1.3.0 or a fresh install).
laravel-whatsapp-widget ^1.0 — composer why jeffersongoncalves/laravel-whatsapp-widget and check the lock file.composer require jeffersongoncalves/filament-whatsapp-widget:^1.4 and let Composer resolve the v2 transitive.vendor:publish overwrites, capture the diff first — do not blind-republish over a customized config.Compatibility. Two axes to verify, not assume: (a) Filament major version supported by 1.4.0, and (b) the laravel-whatsapp-widget v2 constraint. If we are mid-migration to a newer Filament major, sequence this after the Filament upgrade — do not stack two moving majors in one change.
Sequencing. Treat this as a routine dependency refresh, not a feature rollout. Merge to dev → smoke test the panel render path in staging → production with the next scheduled release train. No user-facing comms needed; no flag required unless the widget is customer-visible to a non-admin audience.
Maintenance. Low surface area, but the cadence is Dependabot-driven and the release notes show more activity on funding/CI plumbing than on code. Budget a small recurring allotment — a few hours per quarter — to review patch/minor bumps, and treat major bumps of either the plugin or its underlying widget package as reviewable changes rather than auto-merges. If Renovate/Dependabot is configured, add jeffersongoncalves/* to a grouped, manually-approved rule set.
Support. GitHub issues only, single maintainer, no commercial support or SLA. Acceptable for a non-critical admin UI ornament; not acceptable if the widget is ever promoted to a customer-facing surface where an outage has business consequence. Document that this is a nice-to-have visual element so no on-call rotation treats a failure as an incident.
Scaling. Negligible. The widget renders per admin page load; cost is a small Blade partial and a static link. No queries, no external API calls at render time, no background work. It will not be a bottleneck at any realistic admin concurrency.
Failure modes and detection.
Ramp-up. Minimal. A developer familiar with Filament plugin registration is productive in under an hour; someone unfamiliar needs to learn the panel-provider plugin pattern, still under a day. The documentation surface is thin, so the practical onboarding artifact should be an internal note capturing our config values and the pinned versions — that note is what makes a future maintainer transition cheap.
Recommendation. Adopt/patch to 1.4.0. The functional change is additive i18n; the only item requiring diligence is the laravel-whatsapp-widget v1 → v2 major bump, which should be validated in staging with a config diff and a render check before promotion.
