Filament Security Headers Laravel Package

jeffersongoncalves/filament-security-headers

A Filament plugin that adds security headers to your admin panel, helping protect against clickjacking, MIME sniffing, and other common web threats. Easily configure CSP, X-Frame-Options, HSTS, and more directly from your Filament setup for simple, centralized protection.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Build vs. buy for admin/back-office UI. A Filament plugin is a "buy" decision on the panel layer: it replaces custom Blade/Livewire/CRUD work with an opinionated, maintained component. The decision this release informs is whether to standardize a capability on this package rather than absorb it into our own codebase.
  • Framework upgrade sequencing. 3.0.0 is scoped to Filament 5.x only. That turns the package version into a constraint on our own platform roadmap: adopting 3.0.0 requires being on Filament 5.x, and staying on Filament 3.x/4.x means pinning to the prior major line. This is a scheduling input, not just a dependency bump.
  • Support-matrix and maintenance policy. A major version tied to an upstream major means two upgrade clocks to track (ours and theirs). The PM decision is whether we accept "major bumps driven by upstream majors" as the vendor's release pattern, and what our internal lag tolerance is (e.g., "no more than one upstream major behind").
  • Use-case fit. Appropriate for internal admin tooling, ops/back-office consoles, and tenant dashboards where Filament is already the UI layer. Not a fit for customer-facing surfaces unless Filament is already the established front-end convention.
  • Unknowns to close before committing budget or roadmap space. The release note is a single sentence and does not enumerate breaking changes, deprecations, migration steps, or test coverage on Filament 5. That absence is itself a signal: treat 3.0.0 as unverified until the changelog, upgrade guide, and CI matrix are reviewed.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt when:

  • You are on Filament 5.x today, or Filament 5.x is already on the roadmap for the current quarter.
  • The capability it provides is on your backlog and building it internally would cost more than integrating and maintaining it.
  • The team is already fluent in Filament conventions (resources, panels, plugins), so integration cost is low and reviewable.
  • You can absorb a fresh major release with a pilot and a rollback path rather than a big-bang rollout.

Look elsewhere or defer when:

  • You are on Filament 3.x or 4.x. You can stay on the 2.x line, but do so with eyes open: the 2.x branch is now the legacy branch, and security/bugfix attention typically follows the newest major.
  • You are not a Filament shop. Pulling in Filament and a plugin to get one feature is a large architectural commitment, not a package decision.
  • You need vendor stability, an SLA, or a long support window. A 3.0.0 published as the first release for a new upstream major has limited production soak; treat it as early-adopter territory.
  • The requirement is customer-facing UI or heavily bespoke UX, where Filament's opinionated model becomes friction.

Before committing: confirm the breaking-change list from 2.x, verify the package's CI actually runs against Filament 5.x, check maintainer responsiveness on the 3.0.0 issue queue, and confirm the 2.x branch still receives fixes for the duration of your migration.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

To executives: This is a maintenance-driven major release, not a feature release. It keeps an admin-panel dependency current with Filament 5.x. The value is avoided cost — we don't hand-build and maintain admin CRUD ourselves — and the risk is timing: 3.0.0 is brand new, so we should pilot rather than adopt broadly. Recommend a scoped evaluation with a decision date, not an immediate rollout.

To engineering: 3.0.0 targets Filament 5.x exclusively, so the upgrade is gated on our own Filament 5 migration — sequence that first. Expect a breaking-change surface typical of a major bump; obtain the upgrade guide before estimating. Run it in one non-critical panel first, confirm the dependency's test coverage against 5.x, and keep the 2.x pin available as a rollback. If we are not moving to Filament 5.x this cycle, the correct action is no action.
