A Filament plugin that brings Fathom Analytics metrics into your admin dashboard, with ready-to-use widgets for tracking traffic, pageviews, and site performance without leaving Laravel.
This release (3.3.0) is a minor, additive API change to a Filament panel plugin: Plugin::make()->navigationGroup(string|Closure) lets the settings page be placed into one of the host panel's own navigation groups, falling back to the existing translated group when not configured.
Architecture fit. The feature follows Filament's established plugin-registration pattern (fluent Plugin::make() inside a PanelProvider), so it fits the framework's configuration model rather than introducing a parallel config surface. The string|Closure signature matches Filament's own navigation APIs, which is a good sign of idiomatic design. The plugin remains a thin UI layer over filament-analytics-core — it owns presentation and navigation placement, not analytics logic.
Integration feasibility. High. Adoption is a single chained call in an existing panel provider plus a composer update; no migrations, no published config changes, no asset rebuild implied by the notes. The main gate is the hard requirement on filament-analytics-core 3.1, which must be resolved in the lockfile before the method is callable.
Technical risk. Low, with two caveats. First, the coupling to a specific core minor version means a consumer pinned to core 3.0.x cannot use the feature and may see a runtime method-not-found if the plugin is upgraded without the core. Second, Closure support means navigation grouping is evaluated at render time; if consumers cache panel metadata or resolve navigation outside the request lifecycle, closures may behave unexpectedly. Both are consumer-side configuration risks, not defects.
Key questions for the maintainer. Is the core 3.1 requirement enforced via composer.json conflict/require constraints, or only documented? Is the fallback to the translated group covered by a test? Does navigationGroup() apply per-panel or globally when the plugin is registered in multiple panels? Is there a deprecation path for the translated default?
Stack fit. Laravel with Filament v3 panels; PHP version bound to whatever filament-analytics-core 3.1 declares. This is a presentation-layer package with no data-store footprint, so fit is determined almost entirely by the host's Filament version rather than by application architecture.
Migration path. Effectively a no-op upgrade. Bump the package, confirm filament-analytics-core resolves to >= 3.1, and optionally add the navigationGroup() call. Behaviour without the call is unchanged — the translated group is preserved — so the release is safe to take without any code change and the feature can be adopted later.
Compatibility. Backward compatible by design: the new method is opt-in and the default path is preserved. The only compatibility surface is the core dependency floor, which should be verified against the lockfile before merge. No DB schema or config-file changes to reconcile.
Sequencing. (1) Verify core version constraint resolves in a branch; (2) register the navigation group in one panel, ideally non-production; (3) visually confirm placement and translation fallback; (4) roll to remaining panels; (5) update internal docs/screenshots. Sequence the core upgrade before or atomically with the plugin bump to avoid a window where the plugin expects an absent method. Because the change is cosmetic, it can also be batched into a routine dependency-update train rather than run as its own release.
Maintenance. Negligible steady-state cost — one line of configuration. The real maintenance load is the transitive dependency on filament-analytics-core and, above it, on Filament's major release cadence; the plugin will need attention whenever Filament ships a new major. Budget for that, not for this release.
Support. Low support surface: the failure mode a user will report is "settings page is in the wrong menu group," which is diagnosable from panel configuration alone. Worth capturing in the runbook that the group argument accepts a closure and that an unset value intentionally yields the translated default, so support does not treat the default as a bug.
Scaling. Irrelevant at the data layer. The one scaling-adjacent consideration is multi-panel deployments: if the plugin is registered across several panels, group placement must be set consistently or users will see the same page in different locations per panel — a UX inconsistency rather than a performance issue.
Failure modes. (a) Version skew — plugin upgraded without core 3.1, producing a method-not-found or silently ignored configuration; mitigate with a Composer constraint, not documentation. (b) Closure evaluated in an unexpected context (cached navigation, queued rendering) yielding an empty or wrong group. (c) Silent fallback masking a typo'd group name — the page simply lands in the translated default with no error, which is easy to miss in review.
Ramp-up. Minimal for any developer already fluent in Filament panel configuration — the pattern is identical to core navigation APIs. For developers new to Filament, the concept to teach is that navigation registration is panel-scoped configuration, not application code, which is the usual source of confusion. Half a day of onboarding covers it.
