Getting Started

Start by installing the v1.5 release with an explicit constraint, e.g. composer require <vendor>/<package>:^1.5, then run the package’s install/publish steps if documented. Check the package service provider, config file, and README first; v1.5’s meaningful changes are Laravel 6 compatibility and TLS support, so confirm both against your app’s Laravel/PHP version before rollout.

A practical first use case is a staging smoke test: configure the package through .env, enable TLS using the package’s documented config keys, and verify a real connection/request against a non-production endpoint. Treat the TLS path as the primary validation target for this release, not just a basic “package loads” check.

Implementation Patterns

Keep package configuration environment-driven. Put endpoints, credentials, certificate paths, and TLS toggles in .env/config/*.php, and avoid hardcoding them in service classes. If the package publishes config, publish it once and diff future package upgrades rather than editing vendor files.

For TLS, use the package’s documented scheme/port/encryption settings and leave certificate verification enabled by default. In local or staging environments with private CAs, point to a CA bundle explicitly instead of disabling verification. Add a health check or integration test that exercises the TLS-enabled path so certificate, proxy, and hostname issues fail in CI/staging rather than production.

For Laravel 6 support, verify the package’s Composer constraints against your app and run the test suite on the PHP/Laravel matrix you actually deploy. If you are on a newer Laravel version, do not assume v1.5 supports it just because it supports Laravel 6; check composer why-not and the package’s CI metadata. After deployment, clear cached config and restart queue workers/long-running processes so TLS and dependency changes are picked up.

Use dependency injection or the package’s facade consistently, and wrap calls behind a small internal service/adapter where practical. That makes it easier to swap configuration, mock in tests, and isolate the package if a future release changes behaviour.

Gotchas and Tips

The release notes are high-level: “Revise”, “Improve”, and “Upgrade dependencies” do not describe migration steps or behavioural changes. Review the package diff/changelog and test the specific code paths you use before upgrading, especially around connection setup and exception handling.

TLS problems usually show up as handshake failures, hostname mismatches, expired certificates, missing CA bundles, proxy interception, or SNI issues. Confirm whether v1.5 TLS support applies to client connections, server connections, or both, and test with the same certificate chain and proxy setup used in production. Avoid permanently disabling verification as a workaround.

Laravel 6 support is useful for legacy applications, but Laravel 6 is end-of-life; treat this as compatibility, not a security upgrade for the framework itself. Also watch for transitive dependency conflicts introduced by the dependency upgrade: commit the lockfile, run CI on a clean install, and verify config caching and queue worker restarts after deploy.

Good extension points are the published config, any custom transport/client bindings, events, and logging hooks. Prefer extending through those documented seams rather than subclassing internals that may change between releases.
