invis1ble/messenger-bundle
A PHP Messenger bundle that simplifies wiring message buses, handlers, and transports into your application. It reduces boilerplate around configuration and integration, helping you build decoupled, asynchronous workflows with sensible defaults and a cleaner setup.
Bus/Message interfaces, handler resolution conventions, keeping transport concerns out of domain code — not the code itself. Worth a 30-minute read as prior art if we define our own bus contracts; still not worth a dependency.extra.symfony.require guidance, real-kernel tests against Symfony's container). On a Laravel product surface the integration cost still exceeds the value of a thin interface layer we could write ourselves.composer test|lint|check). That is credible engineering hygiene and partially offsets the earlier bus-factor/supply-chain concern — but it does not create community, documentation depth, or downstream validation.symfony/messenger, timeboxed to a one-day spike.Bus/Message, autowired alias conventions, handler isolation patterns, synchronous test transports, and traceable-bus design for observability. Harvest the ideas; skip the dependency.Consider a spike if all of these are true:
symfony/messenger (plus invis1ble/messenger ^5.1) as the transport.--with-all-dependencies and may force a Symfony constraint and Flex extra.symfony.require bump.Look elsewhere if any of these are true:
Default recommendation: reject for adoption; retain as reference material. v6.2.0 improves the maintenance case, not the fit case — no change to the recommendation.
To executives: This is a free, MIT-licensed Symfony bundle with essentially zero adoption — no meaningful community or dependent projects. The new 6.2.0 release shows the maintainer is active and testing seriously (Symfony 8 support, multi-version CI), which lowers the "abandoned project" risk but does not create a purchase decision, a cost saving, or a strategic option. The only thing worth extracting is the design pattern (clean bus/message interfaces), which our engineers can read and reimplement at negligible cost. Recommendation: no action, no dependency, no budget.
To engineering: It's a contract-first abstraction over a message bus, and v6.2.0 is a solid maintenance release: Symfony ^6.4 || ^7.0 || ^8.0, invis1ble/messenger ^5.1, real-kernel tests covering container linting, autowired aliases, handler isolation, commands, query results, async event delivery, and traceable synchronous test transports, plus a stable CI matrix and dev commands. Useful as a reading reference for separating message/bus interfaces from transport and handler wiring — and its test strategy is worth copying. It is still not recommended as a production dependency for us: it's Symfony-specific (no fit for a Laravel stack), has no downstream consumers to validate it, and would become ours to maintain. If you're on Symfony and want to explore it, timebox a one-day spike, check the PHP 8.4/8.4.1 floors for Symfony 8.x, and assume we may need to vendor it. Otherwise, borrow the interface shapes and move on.
