imi/laravel-transsid
Laravel TransSID provides transparent session ID handling for Laravel applications, keeping sessions alive for clients that block or lack cookies by propagating the session identifier through URLs and requests. It offers simple middleware and configuration for a seamless cookie-less fallback.
Referrer-Policy: no-referrer, log redaction, no external links, and no sensitive/public pages.Look elsewhere if you are on Laravel 9+, require actively maintained security-sensitive session handling, operate in regulated or high-security contexts, cannot accept GPL-2.0, or cannot tolerate session IDs appearing in URLs, logs, browser history, or shared links. Also look elsewhere if standard first-party cookies work—third-party cookie restrictions do not imply you need Trans_SID.
For executives: This is a small, low-adoption, GPL-licensed Laravel package for a legacy compatibility problem: keeping sessions working when cookies are unavailable. It is not a strategic platform bet or a general privacy solution. Approve only a time-boxed evaluation with legal and security review, not broad adoption.
For engineering: It offers middleware-style Trans_SID behavior for Laravel 5–8. Expect to own the integration, test matrix, feature flag, security hardening, and possibly a fork. Confirm framework compatibility, pin the version, and document an exit path.
For product: Use it only if a measured customer cohort is blocked by cookie-less environments and the business value justifies the security/compliance overhead. Define success metrics—reduced blocked sessions without security incidents—and a removal plan. If those criteria are not met, reject it and pursue supported session/token alternatives.
