hesto/core
Hesto Core is the shared foundation for Hesto’s Laravel packages, providing common service providers, configuration, helpers, and base classes. It simplifies building modular Laravel applications and keeps the Hesto ecosystem consistent.
hesto/core implies shared primitives (base classes, traits, helpers) that many features would inherit. The PM decision is whether that foundation is ours to own or a dependency we inherit — and with an unverified repository, low adoption (≈30 stars) and a low evaluation score (0.47), the default answer should be own it.Consider it only when all of the following hold:
Look elsewhere — or build in-house — when:
To executives: We evaluated hesto/core, a small foundational PHP/Laravel package. It is cheap to try and cheap to discard, but it is not a foundation we should build revenue features on: we cannot verify its source repository, it has minimal adoption, and it scores low on our dependency rubric. Recommendation is to treat it as a replaceable utility, not a platform bet — no roadmap commitment until a short technical spike confirms it is narrow enough to fork and own.
To engineering: Timebox a spike. Read the source end to end, confirm licence and PHP/Laravel constraints, and answer one question: could we reimplement this in under a week? If yes, adopt with the version pinned, the fork held internally, and tests around every call site. If no, it is too coupled to be safely external — build or select an alternative.
To finance/procurement: No licence spend is implied, but budget a small ongoing maintenance allowance (est. a few engineering days per year) for security patching and framework upgrades, since upstream support is not guaranteed.
Bottom line: viable as an internal accelerator for low-risk surfaces; not viable as a dependency of record without provenance and maintenance evidence.
