hboie/jasper-report-bundle
Symfony bundle for generating reports with JasperReports. Compile JRXML templates and export to PDF, HTML, XLS, and other formats through a simple PHP service, with configurable JasperReports binaries and report parameters.
jaspersoft/rest-client, which means the real decision it informs is whether to buy into Jaspersoft/JasperReports Server as your reporting backend versus building report generation in-house. The bundle itself is the cheap part of that decision; the license and operational cost of a JasperReports Server is the expensive part..jrxml artifacts in Jaspersoft Studio rather than in application code, this supports the decision to hand report maintenance to analysts/ops instead of engineering. That is often the most valuable outcome for a PM, not the code itself.Adopt only when all of the following hold:
jaspersoft/rest-client directly behind a service provider; that is genuinely a few hours of work.Look elsewhere when:
composer.json and chase container-definition deprecations before you write a line of feature code.SELECT and a CSV writer. To executives: This is a small, cheap connector, not a platform bet. It saves on the order of one to two engineering days of configuration when integrating an existing JasperReports Server into a Symfony application, and its main strategic value is moving report authoring out of the engineering backlog and into the hands of analysts. The package itself carries no cost, but the surrounding JasperReports Server does — licensing, JVM/Tomcat operations, and specialist template skills — so approve it only as part of a decision you have already made to run Jaspersoft. Do not treat it as a reason to adopt Jaspersoft.
To engineering: Treat this as reference wiring, not a dependency. It is a Symfony 2–5 bundle (so Laravel is out of scope), last released November 2021, with 5 stars and zero dependents — no production signal. Recommended approach: spend a short spike reading its service definitions, then vendor or fork the ~50 lines you actually need behind an internal ReportGenerator interface. That keeps the vendor swappable, isolates the abandoned code, and means a future move off Jaspersoft is a one-class change rather than a refactor. Gate the decision on the spike: if REST v2 auth and template resolution work against your server version in under a day, proceed; if not, the package was never the value anyway.
