gregwar/image-bundle
Symfony bundle wrapping the Gregwar Image library for easy image manipulation: resize, crop, rotate, watermark, and apply filters via services, Twig helpers, or a simple API, with built-in caching to keep generated images fast.
Consider it when:
Look elsewhere when:
srcset at scale — league/glide, imgproxy, or Thumbor is the right shape, and a managed service is the right shape above that.Executives: A small, MIT-licensed, dependency-free image handling library that lets us ship basic resize/crop/watermark for uploaded content with no vendor cost and no new infrastructure. It unblocks image-dependent features immediately. Be explicit that it is a stopgap, not a platform bet — we should plan to replace or wrap it if image volume or quality requirements grow, and we should keep the swap cheap by not letting it leak into product code.
Engineering: Low ceremony — GD-only, no daemon, derivatives cached to disk, Symfony service plus Twig helpers. The trade-off is that the bundle is legacy-era (Symfony 2/3 generation, no meaningful recent maintenance, essentially no downstream dependents). Its real value is in apps already on that stack. For greenfield work, Intervention Image or LiipImagineBundle delivers the same capability on an actively maintained base; Glide or imgproxy if we need URL-driven transforms. Recommendation if adopted: put it behind a thin internal ImageTransformer interface so replacing the implementation is a config change, not a refactor — and so the build-vs-buy decision stays reversible.
