Product Decisions This Supports

  • Build vs. buy — defaults to build. v0.2.0-alpha explicitly supports only Laravel 4.1, which is long past end-of-life. For any product on a currently supported Laravel line (5.x through 11/12), this package is not a candidate, so the decision collapses to "build the small surface ourselves or use a maintained equivalent."
  • Roadmap — legacy track only. The only plausible roadmap slot is a long-lived Laravel 4.1 application still under a maintenance contract (common in agency/enterprise legacy portfolios). Scope any evaluation to that track; do not let it appear on a greenfield roadmap.
  • Feature planning — no signal. This release is plumbing, not capability: PSR-4 autoloading, docs refresh, unit test tweaks, minor fixes. There is no new feature to plan around or communicate to customers.
  • Dependency risk posture. An 0.x-alpha package with a single, EOL framework target should be treated as unmaintained-or-hobbyist until proven otherwise. Do not take it as a dependency in anything you intend to sell or support beyond the next twelve months, and do not let it into a procurement or security-review flow without a named internal owner.
  • Fork-vs-consume. If adopted at all, the right decision is "adopt source, not dependency" — vendor or fork it, pin it, and assign an owner. That is a maintenance-cost decision, not a purchasing decision.

When to Consider This Package

Consider it only when all of the following hold:

  • You own a Laravel 4.1 codebase that must keep running, and this package solves a problem you would otherwise hand-roll.
  • You have checked the repository's commit cadence and issue responsiveness and found it alive — release notes alone do not establish that.
  • You are prepared to vendor or fork it and name an engineer accountable for it.

Look elsewhere when:

  • You are on any Laravel version ≥ 5.x. The 4.1-only constraint is disqualifying on its own; pick an actively maintained alternative or build the equivalent yourself.
  • You require supported-version guarantees, security patching, or a deprecation policy. Alpha versioning plus one pinned framework version is a "no" for compliance review.
  • You need evidence of production adoption. This release offers no adoption data, no versioning policy, and no deprecation notice — treat the "PSR-4 + updated docs" changes as baseline hygiene, a mildly positive signal rather than a signal of investment.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives: "This is a small open-source Laravel add-on at alpha, and its new release only works with Laravel 4.1 — a framework version that stopped receiving security fixes years ago. It doesn't belong on a product roadmap. Its only legitimate use is keeping an old 4.1 application alive, and in that case we would fork it and own the maintenance cost rather than depend on it."

For engineering: "v0.2.0-alpha is a housekeeping release — PSR-4 autoloading, documentation updates, test tweaks — carrying an explicit Laravel 4.1-only support statement. That's a compatibility ceiling, not a feature. Anyone proposing it needs to justify it against our supported Laravel baseline and accept ownership of a fork. On a current Laravel version, the answer is build the equivalent or use a maintained library; there is no meaningful capability here that justifies the version lock."
