Getting Started

This is a Laravel integration package whose 2.4.0 release removed its illuminate/* / laravel/framework version constraints and now declares compatibility with any future Laravel version. Practically, that changes your first steps:

  1. Install and inspect the constraint — composer require vendor/package:^2.4, then confirm with composer show vendor/package that no illuminate/support bound is listed. If your app is on an older Laravel, this is the release that unblocks you; if you're on a bleeding-edge Laravel, this is the release that lets you try it.
  2. Look here first — the package's composer.json (for the absent constraint), its service provider (register() / boot()), and any published config file. Those three surfaces are where cross-version breakage will show up first.
  3. First use case — publish config and hit the package's primary entry point (facade, trait, or middleware) on your current Laravel version, before upgrading Laravel. Because 2.4.0 no longer gates installation, "it installs" is now a much weaker signal than it used to be.

If you were previously blocked from upgrading Laravel because of this package, 2.4.0 is your green light — but treat it as "installation unblocked," not "verified compatible" (see Gotchas).

Implementation Patterns

Pin the package, float the framework. Let the package resolve freely against laravel/framework, but keep "vendor/package": "^2.4" in your own require so an unexpected 3.x doesn't land silently. The removed constraint only affects the package's downward declaration; your app's constraint is now the only guardrail.

Compatibility is now your CI's job, not Composer's. The release moves the burden of proving compatibility from dependency resolution to your test matrix. A workable pattern:

  • A composer update --with-all-dependencies job per supported Laravel version (via orchestra/testbench for package-level tests, or a matrix of app skeletons for integration tests).
  • Run on the latest Laravel in a non-blocking/allowed-failure lane so you learn about breakage before it ships, not after.

Upgrade workflow. Do Laravel major upgrades on a branch with composer update -W and read the resulting lockfile diff. With the constraint gone, Composer will happily resolve a combination the maintainers never ran. If the diff moves the package's transitive illuminate/* deps, that's your cue to exercise the package's integration points specifically.

Monorepos / multi-app. This is the release that lets a single vendor/package version serve apps on different Laravel majors simultaneously. The tradeoff: a bug that only reproduces on one Laravel version is now a runtime bug rather than a resolution error, so version-specific bug reports need the Laravel version in the title.

Integration tip. Prefer the package's published config and container bindings over reaching into internals. Config keys and bindings tend to survive majors; protected methods and internal class names do not — and there's no longer a constraint to catch you when they change.

Gotchas and Tips

"Supports any future Laravel version" is a declaration, not a test result. Removing constraints means Composer will permit installation on Laravel 12, 13, 14+. It does not mean the maintainers have run against those. Semantic-version contracts in illuminate/* are reasonably stable, but Laravel ships a major annually with real deprecations (and occasionally removals) in service providers, the container, and HTTP/console layers. Budget verification time on every Laravel major — this release transfers that cost from the maintainer to you.

You can add the guardrail back yourself. If you need protection the package no longer provides, add to your app's composer.json:

"conflict": { "laravel/framework": ">=13.0" }

That gives you the old behavior locally without forking.

Debugging resolution. composer why-not vendor/package 2.4.0 and composer show --tree vendor/package are the tools when something still won't install — with constraints removed, remaining conflicts are almost always a transitive dependency or a PHP version bound, not the package itself.

Watch the PHP constraint too. The release notes mention only Laravel. If php is still pinned, that's the next thing that will block you on a new runtime; check it while you're in composer.json.

Extension points most at risk across majors: service provider boot() ordering, container binding signatures, config file merging/publishing, facade accessor resolution, and any published migration or view namespace. Smoke-test these specifically rather than relying on the package's own suite.

Pin in CI, float in dev. Use composer.lock commits on application repos so a CI run doesn't change Laravel out from under you; keep one unlocked lane to catch future breakage early.

Report breakage with versions. Because the package now spans many Laravel versions, a bug report without an exact laravel/framework and PHP version is close to untriageable.
