gog/recaptcha-firewall
gog/recaptcha-firewall is a Laravel middleware package that verifies Google reCAPTCHA tokens before requests reach your routes, helping block bots and spam submissions while letting legitimate users through with minimal configuration.
Consider it when:
Look elsewhere when:
To executives: This is a low-cost experiment, not a platform bet. It shows us, quickly and cheaply, whether challenging suspicious traffic inside the app improves form quality and reduces abuse — and what it costs us in legitimate conversions. We can walk away with no switching cost. The caveat is maturity: the package has no meaningful adoption signal, so if the pilot succeeds we should expect to own and maintain the code, or replace it with a supported vendor at that point. Recommendation: fund a time-boxed spike, not a production rollout.
To engineering: Treat it as reference code. Read it, fork it, own it — don't composer require it into anything customer-facing without a review pass on middleware ordering, token verification, cookie scoping, bypass rules, and fail-open vs. fail-closed behavior. Confirm how it behaves when Google's API is slow or unreachable; that's the decision that determines whether an outage becomes our outage. If the spike proves out, plan for the swap to Turnstile or edge protection rather than a long-term commitment to a zero-adoption package.
