Multiple Date Picker Laravel Package

ghanem/multiple-date-picker

A Laravel/PHP package for adding a multiple-date picker to forms and interfaces, letting users select several dates at once. Useful for scheduling, booking, and date-range scenarios without building multi-date selection logic from scratch.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Admin tooling build-vs-buy. If your internal back office runs on Laravel Nova, this is a ready-made multi-date picker field: a few hours of integration versus several days building and testing a custom Vue/Nova field. The decision it informs is "extend Nova out of the box" vs. "invest engineering time in bespoke admin components."
  • Feature scoping for date-set workflows. It directly enables admin-side selection of discrete date collections: blackout/holiday calendars, availability windows, multi-session events (training cohorts, exam sittings), campaign or promo run dates, content publish schedules, employee leave entries, and delivery/pickup slot definitions. Any roadmap item that reads "admin picks several dates at once" can be prototyped immediately.
  • Data-model direction. A single multi-date field typically persists a JSON/array column rather than a normalized dates table. That is a real architectural fork: fast to ship and simple to query by whole-set, but weaker for per-date reporting, joins, uniqueness constraints, and partial updates. Adoption should be a conscious decision to accept JSON storage for these entities, not an incidental one.
  • Roadmap sequencing signal. This is an internal-productivity accelerator, not a customer-facing capability. It shortens the admin-side half of scheduling features and lets you bring forward the roadmap items that were blocked on "we need somewhere for ops to enter these dates."
  • Niche validation. The package's existence confirms multi-date selection is an unmet gap in the Nova ecosystem, which is useful if you are weighing whether to build your own reusable Nova field for the whole team.

When to Consider This Package

Consider it when all of the following hold:

  • The application's admin surface is Laravel Nova — the package has no value outside it, and Nova itself is a paid, licensed product, so the addressable audience is already narrow.
  • Users need discrete, unordered or loosely ordered dates (a set), not a continuous range, not times-of-day, not recurrence rules.
  • The consumer is trusted internal staff, where a UI glitch is an annoyance rather than a revenue or compliance incident.
  • You can accept single-maintainer risk: 0 stars, 0 dependents, and a single recent release mean essentially no community vetting, no ecosystem of issue reports, and no evidence of production usage at scale. Treat the code as unaudited until you have read it.
  • You can pin the version and are willing to fork under MIT if the maintainer goes quiet — a realistic near-term outcome for a package at this adoption level.

Look elsewhere — or build — when:

  • You are not on Nova, or you are on a Nova major version the field has not been verified against. Nova's field API changes between majors; confirm compatibility with your installed version before committing.
  • You need date ranges (start/end pairs), recurrence (RRULE-style "every second Tuesday"), time components, or timezone-aware semantics. None of these are the package's problem statement, and bending a set-of-dates field into them will cost more than writing the right component.
  • You need customer-facing UI, accessibility guarantees, localization, or an SLA.
  • Per-date relational integrity matters — foreign keys, uniqueness, per-date statuses, or reporting joins. Prefer a normalized table with a repeatable/HasMany Nova relationship, or a dedicated child resource.
  • Your org requires maintained dependencies with security response commitments. A zero-dependent, zero-star package will not clear that bar.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

To executives: This is a small, free (MIT-licensed) add-on that lets our operations team select many dates at once inside our existing admin panel instead of adding them one at a time. It is a productivity win on internal tooling — days of engineering avoided, no licensing cost, no new vendor. The trade-off is maturity: it is a very early-stage package with essentially no adoption, so we should treat it as a head start on our own code rather than a foundation, and budget a short review before relying on it. It does not touch the customer-facing product, so the downside is contained.

To engineering: It is a single-purpose Nova field — one form control, MIT licensed, released January 2025, no dependents. Small surface area, easy to read end to end and easy to fork. Before adoption: confirm it works against our pinned Nova version, review how it serializes values (expect a JSON/array column) and whether that fits the entities we plan to attach it to, and check for tests. If we end up needing this pattern in more than one or two resources, the better play is to vendor a fork into our own namespace and own it, because upstream maintenance is not something we can count on.

Recommendation: Pilot on one low-risk admin resource to remove date-entry toil, pin the version, and revisit as a fork if a second use case appears. Do not standardize on it across the admin until the storage model and Nova-version compatibility are confirmed.
