Product Decisions This Supports
- Very narrow scope: it does not support most product decisions. This is a Victoire DCMS (Symfony) "progress" widget—a UI block that renders a progress indicator inside a page-builder CMS. It is not a Laravel package, despite being evaluated in that context, so it cannot slot into a Laravel roadmap without a port.
- Build vs. buy: build. At 0 stars, 0 dependents, and zero releases since August 2016, there is no ecosystem, no maintainer activity, and no support surface. The total cost of ownership (fork, security review, Symfony-version compatibility work, ongoing patching) exceeds writing a small progress component from scratch in Blade/Livewire.
- Roadmap signal, not a dependency. Its only real value is as a reference for feature decisions: it shows what a CMS progress block typically exposes (label, value/percentage, styling variants). Use it as a design checklist when specifying a progress component, not as shipped code.
- Use cases it would nominally serve: progress/status display in an admin or CMS authoring UI—e.g., profile completion, onboarding steps, campaign or workflow completion. These are small, self-contained frontend concerns that belong in your own component library.
- Vendor and architecture hygiene decision: treat Victoire and its widget family as out of scope, and record the decision so it isn't re-evaluated each cycle.
When to Consider This Package
Adoption criteria—all of which must hold, and here none do:
- You are running Victoire DCMS on Symfony, not Laravel. This package is a Symfony bundle (
WidgetProgressBundle) and is architecturally incompatible with Laravel's package discovery, service container conventions, and Blade view layer.
- You need a progress block inside the Victoire page builder specifically, and you are pinned to a Symfony version this bundle actually supports (circa 2016).
- You have accepted maintenance ownership: no releases in ~9 years means no security patches, no PHP 8.x guarantees, and no dependency updates. Only adopt if you can fork and maintain it.
Look elsewhere—or build—when:
- You are on Laravel (the premise here). No bridge exists; there are zero dependents, so no community path to follow.
- You need anything modern: accessibility semantics (
role="progressbar", ARIA values), theming, live-updating values, or server-driven state.
- You need SLAs, security review, or a maintained dependency graph. Recommendation: do not adopt; build a small native component and move on.
How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)
For executives: We evaluated friendsofvictoire/progress-widget and recommend not adopting it. It is an unmaintained Symfony CMS widget—last released in 2016, zero stars, zero dependents, and not compatible with our Laravel stack. Taking it on would mean owning security and upgrade risk for a component we can build in a few days. Recommendation: close the evaluation, build the progress indicator natively, and note the decision so it isn't revisited.
For engineering: This is a Victoire DCMS Symfony bundle, not a Laravel package; using it would require a port, at which point we'd have written it anyway. There's no maintenance signal—no releases since 2016, no dependents, no issue activity to gauge. Instead, lift its feature surface (label, percentage value, style variants) as requirements for an in-house Blade/Livewire component with proper ARIA progressbar semantics. Estimated effort: small; estimated risk: low.
