Ajaxgrid Laravel Package

evolutto/ajaxgrid

TaoSistemasAjaxGridBundle (evolutto/ajaxgrid) is an AJAX grid bundle for Symfony 3 that adds AJAX-driven data grid functionality to Symfony applications. The README is minimal, so inspect the source and confirm Symfony 3 compatibility before adopting it.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Build vs. buy for admin/data-grid UI. This package sits in the "buy" bucket for a recurring product need: sortable, filterable, paginated tables. Its assessment informs whether we can shortcut that build — and the answer here is no, which pushes the decision toward an in-house component or a maintained commercial/open-source alternative.
  • Roadmap sequencing for internal tooling. If a grid is on the roadmap for an admin console or back-office, evaluating this package lets us close the "is there a drop-in?" question quickly and keep the work item scoped to our own component library rather than an integration spike.
  • Licensing and compliance posture. GPL-2.0 is a copyleft license. For any distributed or SaaS-adjacent product, adopting it introduces a legal review, a potential obligation to release derivative source, or a hard "no" from counsel. This is a decision input for the legal/OSS approval gate, not just engineering.
  • Framework-strategy validation. The package targets Symfony 3 (end-of-life since January 2021), not Laravel. It's a data point that our PHP ecosystem assumptions should be explicit in any evaluation checklist — a framework mismatch should be caught at intake, not after a spike.
  • Vendor/adoption risk rubric calibration. Zero stars, zero dependents, no releases, and a one-line README make this a useful negative example for tightening our intake scorecard: minimum thresholds for maintenance signals, license class, and framework compatibility.

When to Consider This Package

Consider it only if all of the following hold:

  • You are maintaining a legacy Symfony 3 application that cannot be upgraded, and you need a grid immediately with no budget to build one.
  • Your organization has already cleared GPL-2.0 for the specific deployment model (internal-only use, no distribution, no networked-service obligation concerns per your counsel's reading).
  • You are willing to fork and own the code outright — treat it as sample code, not a dependency. There are no maintainers, no issue triage, no security response.
  • The grid requirements are trivial (basic AJAX paging/sorting) and you accept the risk of undocumented behavior.

Look elsewhere in essentially every other case:

  • On Laravel (the stated context), this package does not apply. Use Livewire + Alpine, Inertia + TanStack Table, Filament, Laravel Nova, or a DataTables/Yajra integration.
  • If the Symfony constraint is real but the version is current, use Symfony UX Turbo/Live Components or a maintained grid bundle — not an abandoned Symfony 3 artifact.
  • If the requirement is non-trivial (server-side filtering, column virtualization, export, saved views, accessibility), no single-line-README package will meet it; scope a build.
  • If procurement or security review applies, zero dependents and zero release history mean no CVE surface and no CVE response — that's a finding, not a clean bill of health.
  • If the grid is customer-facing, an unmaintained GPL dependency is a poor foundation for anything with an SLA.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

Bottom line: do not adopt. This is a near-empty, abandoned Symfony 3 bundle being evaluated for a Laravel codebase, published under GPL-2.0, with zero users and a one-sentence README.

For executives: the package offers no viable shortcut. It is not compatible with our stack, has no maintainer or community, and its copyleft license would require legal review before any use. Adopting it would convert a routine UI task into an ongoing ownership and compliance liability. Recommendation: close the evaluation, and fund either a small internal grid component or a license for a maintained solution.

For engineering: treat this as reference material at best. No releases, no tests referenced, no issue history, Symfony 3 only (EOL 2021). If the underlying AJAX-grid pattern is interesting, we can reimplement it in a few days against our own conventions and keep the license clean. Proposed path: a thin server-side query/pagination contract plus a front-end table component (TanStack Table or DataTables), owned by us.

Ask: approve closing this evaluation and reallocating the spike time to a scoped build-vs-buy comparison of two or three maintained alternatives, plus a one-line addition to our intake checklist requiring a stated license class and framework compatibility up front.
