Fixtures Booster Bundle Laravel Package

elcodi/fixtures-booster-bundle

Fixtures Booster Bundle is part of Elcodi, an e-commerce suite of Symfony components and bundles under the MIT license. It helps seed and boost fixture data for Elcodi applications. This read-only package directs issues and pull requests to the main elcodi/elcodi repository.

Product Decisions This Supports

  • Do not put this package on the roadmap as a dependency. It is an archived, read-only Symfony/Elcodi bundle with a last release in 2016, zero dependents, and an EOL notice. For a Laravel/PHP product, adopting it would create unsupported compatibility, security, and maintenance risk.
  • Build vs. buy: build the fixture capability. E-commerce fixture generation—products, variants, categories, customers, carts, orders, coupons, and demo data—is commodity tooling. Prefer Laravel factories/seeders, Faker, and maintained test-data packages over reviving this bundle.
  • Use it as a reference artifact, not a library. It can help a PM and engineering enumerate the fixture domains an e-commerce product needs for QA, demos, local development, and migration rehearsals.
  • Supports legacy migration discovery. If the organization maintains an existing Elcodi/Symfony storefront, this package can inform a data-model and fixture-dependency inventory before a Laravel migration. It should not become a forward-looking platform decision.
  • Signals low opportunity. The package’s low opportunity score and archived status mean it is not a differentiator; investing roadmap capacity here has little product upside.

When to Consider This Package

  • Only for existing legacy Elcodi/Symfony maintenance, where the application already depends on it and a migration is not imminent. In that case, pin versions, isolate usage, and treat it as frozen technical debt.
  • As historical reference when mapping e-commerce entities and fixture scenarios for a migration, test strategy, or demo-data design.
  • Look elsewhere for Laravel. Use Laravel’s native factories/seeders, Faker, and actively maintained packages. If richer e-commerce data is needed, build domain-specific factories or select a maintained commerce platform/package.
  • Do not adopt if you need active support, security review, PHP/Laravel compatibility, current documentation, or any new production integration. The read-only status, 2016 release, and EOL notice are disqualifying for new work.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

Executive summary: This is not a viable dependency for our Laravel roadmap. It is an archived, end-of-life Symfony e-commerce bundle last released in 2016, with no dependents and no PR support. Using it would add support, security, and compatibility risk with negligible differentiation. The capability it addresses—fixture and demo-data generation—is inexpensive to build with Laravel-native tooling or maintained packages. Recommend no adoption; use it only as a reference if we have a legacy Elcodi migration, and otherwise close the evaluation.
