Product Decisions This Supports
- Admin-managed QR code features: shipping QR codes for marketing campaigns, product/asset labeling, event check-in, or location-based deep links without building a bespoke CRUD + generation layer in Nova.
- Build vs. buy on internal tooling: this package is a candidate "buy" (composer install) for the CRUD/management surface of QR codes; you still own the product decisions around what a QR code points to, lifecycle/expiry, and reporting.
- Roadmap sequencing: useful for validating QR demand cheaply inside an existing Nova admin before committing to a public-facing QR service, dedicated short-link domain, or scan analytics pipeline.
- Ops/back-office enablement: lets non-engineering teams self-serve QR creation and updates (e.g., repointing a printed code) instead of filing tickets.
- Not a decision lever for: consumer-facing scan experiences, high-volume redirect infrastructure, or scan analytics — treat those as separate product bets.
When to Consider This Package
Consider it when all of the following hold:
- You are already running Laravel Nova (the package is Nova-specific; it is dead weight without a Nova license and panel).
- Your need is internal/admin management of QR codes — create, store, and regenerate codes — rather than a public API or high-traffic redirect service.
- You want to avoid maintaining your own Nova tool, migration, and QR rendering integration for a low-differentiation capability.
- You can accept a small, single-maintainer package and are comfortable pinning versions and reviewing changelogs.
Look elsewhere (or build) when:
- You are not on Nova — a Filament, Inertia, or custom admin equivalent, or a direct integration with a QR library, is a better fit.
- You need scan analytics, dynamic short-link redirects at scale, or campaign attribution — that is a product/platform decision, not an admin CRUD concern; evaluate a dedicated QR/link platform instead.
- You need SLAs, security review, or long-term vendor support — the release cadence here (patch-level fixes, e.g. v1.0.2 addressing issue #5) suggests community-scale maintenance; plan to fork or wrap it if it becomes business-critical.
- Your QR codes are customer-facing and contractual (tickets, compliance labels) — the generation/validation logic likely deserves first-party ownership and tests.
Release context: v1.0.2 is a patch release containing a bug fix only — no new features, no breaking changes, no deprecations. It does not change the adoption calculus; it slightly improves confidence that reported issues get addressed.
How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)
For executives: This is a small, low-cost add-on that lets our team generate and manage QR codes from the admin tools we already run, instead of paying for a separate QR vendor or spending engineering weeks building one. It covers the internal workflow only — if we later want scan tracking or customer-facing QR campaigns, that becomes a separate, larger investment decision.
For engineering: A Laravel Nova tool that provides QR code creation/management inside the admin panel. Adopt it only if we're already on Nova; it removes a chunk of boilerplate (model, migrations, Nova resource, rendering) at the cost of a third-party dependency with a single maintainer. Latest release v1.0.2 is a bug-fix patch (issue #5) with no breaking changes — safe to bump within the 1.x line. Recommend pinning the version, wrapping it behind our own model/API where practical, and confirming it doesn't become a dependency for any customer-facing flow without a fork-and-own plan.
