Creators Ticketing Laravel Package

daacreators/creators-ticketing

A Laravel ticketing package from DaaCreators that adds a lightweight, ready-made support helpdesk to your app. Create tickets, thread replies, track statuses, and manage customer conversations via a simple, framework-friendly API—no need to build ticketing from scratch.

Technical Evaluation

Architecture fit

  • Composer-installable Laravel package with a Filament plugin surface — the expected shape is a service provider, publishable config, migrations, Eloquent models, and Filament Resources/Pages registered into a panel via a Plugin class.
  • Fit is conditional: the package only delivers full value if the host application is already on Filament v3 + Livewire 3. In a plain Laravel app without Filament, adopting this means adopting an entire admin-panel framework as a transitive architectural decision — that is a platform commitment, not a package install.
  • Delineation between domain layer (tickets, statuses, assignees, comments, attachments) and presentation layer (Filament resources) is the critical unknown. If business logic lives inside Filament Resource classes, it is not reusable for a customer-facing portal or API, and the "robust" claim narrows to "an admin screen for tickets."
  • Ticket systems are inherently opinionated about data model (agent vs. requester, team/queue, SLA clocks, categories). Expect to reconcile the package's entities with any existing CRM/user directory.

Integration feasibility

  • Standard path is low-friction on paper: composer require, publish config/migrations, register the plugin in the PanelProvider, run migrations. Realistically a 1–3 day spike for a Filament-fluent team.
  • Two hard gates to verify first: (1) version constraints in composer.json against the host's Laravel/PHP/Filament versions, and (2) whether migrations assume MySQL (enum columns, JSON handling) if the host runs Postgres or SQLite.
  • Authorization is the most common gap in packages at this maturity level — check whether policies, gate registration, and per-panel access control exist, or whether every authenticated panel user can see every ticket.

Technical risk

  • Adoption signal is weak: 36 stars and 0 dependents means essentially no production evidence. The 0.54 composite score is middling, consistent with a functional personal/agency project rather than a hardened library.
  • Bus factor of one. MIT licensing is the mitigant — you can fork — but you inherit maintenance the moment you ship it.
  • Filament v4 migration risk is material: Filament has shipped breaking changes across majors, and plugins typically require non-trivial rework. A package with one maintainer and low visibility may lag a major by months.
  • Migration footprint in the host database is a one-way-ish door; unwinding shipped tables with real ticket data is expensive.
  • Security surface: ticket bodies and comments are user-generated content rendered in an admin panel; attachments mean file storage and mime validation. Neither is guaranteed to be hardened.

Key questions

  1. What are the exact composer.json constraints (PHP, Laravel, Filament, Livewire), and when was the last release/commit?
  2. Does it define its own user/agent model, or does it pivot off the host App\Models\User?
  3. Is Filament multi-tenancy (tenant() scoping) supported, or does that require a fork?
  4. Is there a domain/API layer, or is everything reachable only through Livewire components?
  5. Notification channels (mail, database, queued), SLA/escalation logic — in scope or absent?
  6. Test suite, CI status, and static analysis presence?
  7. Policies/authorization coverage and file-upload validation rules?

Integration Approach

Stack fit

  • Target: Laravel 10/11, PHP 8.1+, Filament v3, Livewire 3, Tailwind. If the app is on Filament v3 already, this is a natural plugin slot. If not, run a separate build-vs-adopt exercise against a hand-built ticket resource (roughly 2–4 weeks of work for a mid-level Laravel dev) — a 36-star dependency may not beat that.
  • Customer-facing ticketing is likely out of scope; assume the package is the agent-side console and you still own the intake channel (form, email-to-ticket, API).

Migration path

  1. Branch + sandbox database; never migrate a shared dev DB first.
  2. composer require, publish config/assets, inspect generated migrations for table names and collision risk with existing tickets/comments style tables.
  3. Register the plugin in a dedicated non-production panel (/admin vs. a new /support panel) to isolate blast radius.
  4. Seed synthetic tickets, exercise every resource, verify policies with a second low-privilege user.
  5. Only then promote config and migrations into the shared environment with a rollback plan.

Compatibility

  • Pin an exact version in composer.lock and record the upstream commit SHA in your ADR.
  • Validate DB driver parity and check whether the package's migrations use enum() or vendor-specific types.
  • Confirm the plugin boots cleanly alongside existing Filament plugins — panel boot failures are total, not partial.

Sequencing Spike → dependency/version audit → data model review and auth review → decision gate (adopt / fork / build) → pilot in an isolated panel → integrate identity + notifications → production rollout. Do not parallelize the data-model review with the pilot; the entity shape determines whether the pilot is meaningful.

Operational Impact

Maintenance

  • Budget ~10–15% of one engineer's time as a standing tax: tracking upstream, patching Filament majors, and applying security fixes. If the upstream goes quiet, that becomes a fork-maintenance line item.
  • Maintain a thin internal adapter — your own service class or repository wrapping ticket creation — so that replacing the package later is a swap, not a rewrite.

Support

  • Community-only support via GitHub issues; no SLA, no vendor. Internal ownership must be assigned before adoption, with a named owner and an escalation path.
  • Document the fork procedure and keep your patches as discrete commits on a vendor-patches branch.

Scaling

  • Filament admin panels scale fine for tens of concurrent agents; Livewire polling under heavy ticket-list usage is the first thing to feel slow.
  • Ensure indexes on status, assignee_id, created_at. Watch for N+1 in ticket tables (assignee, category, comment counts) — unoptimized Filament tables are the classic failure point at volume.
  • Attachments: choose the storage disk deliberately (S3 vs. local), enforce size/mime limits, and plan for lifecycle/retention policy. Ticket attachment storage grows monotonically and is easy to forget.
  • Route notifications through queues to avoid synchronous mail on ticket creation.

Failure modes

  • Plugin boot exception takes down the entire admin panel — isolate in a separate panel.
  • Migration collision or rollback failure on ticket tables with real data.
  • Filament major upgrade leaves the plugin incompatible, freezing your panel version.
  • Authorization gap exposing tickets cross-team or cross-tenant.
  • Orphaned/unassigned tickets with no default queue, silently accumulating outside anyone's view.
  • Notification storms on bulk status changes.

Ramp-up

  • Filament-fluent Laravel developers: 1–3 days to productive, 1–2 weeks to confident ownership of the data model.
  • Laravel developers new to Filament: add ~1 week for Livewire/Filament idioms, plus time to learn the plugin's conventions.
  • Non-PHP stakeholders need a plain-language note that this is an internal console, not a customer-facing help center — that framing shapes the scope conversation more than any technical detail.
