Product Decisions This Supports

  • Framework upgrade sequencing. Confirmed Laravel 13 support removes this package as a blocker on a Laravel 13 migration. The PM can slot the framework upgrade into the roadmap without first answering "do we need to replace or fork this dependency?"
  • Dependency retention (build vs. buy). A package that tracks framework majors promptly keeps our maintenance cost at zero. Renew-or-replace reviews can stay on the normal cadence instead of being escalated.
  • Dependency risk scoring. Clears the immediate "will this work on our next framework version?" risk flag. It does not clear the "is this actively developed?" flag — a compatibility bump is a maintenance signal, not a feature signal.
  • What it does not support: the release contains no functional, API, licensing, or pricing changes, so it should not by itself move roadmap priorities, trigger user-facing release notes, or change commercial terms. The only verified fact here is framework compatibility; the package's functional scope should be confirmed against its own documentation before it is cited in any product decision.

When to Consider This Package

Adopt or keep it if:

  • Your platform is on Laravel 13, or is scheduled to be within the framework's support window.
  • You want dependencies that follow framework majors quickly rather than pinning you to an aging release.
  • The package's functional domain already fits your use case (validate independently — this release note says nothing about features).

Look elsewhere or escalate if:

  • You are on an older Laravel major with no upgrade path; this release is forward-looking only.
  • The changelog shows a pattern of compatibility-only releases. That is acceptable for a stable utility and a warning sign for anything you expect to grow with you.
  • You need vendor roadmap commitments, feature velocity, or a support SLA — none of which a version bump demonstrates.

Before adopting or bumping:

  1. Pin and run the full test suite on Laravel 13 in a staging branch.
  2. Confirm the rest of the dependency graph is also Laravel 13-ready — this package being ready does not mean the graph is.
  3. Read the changelog between your pinned version and 3.5.0; a major-version support bump can carry internal changes that the one-line note omits.

How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)

For executives: "A dependency we rely on has shipped support for the newest Laravel major. That takes it off the list of things blocking our framework upgrade and reduces the chance we'd have to maintain a patched copy ourselves. No cost, license, or feature changes — this is a maintenance release, not a product change."

For engineering: "Laravel 13 compatibility landed in 3.5.0. Treat it as a green light to include this package in the Laravel 13 upgrade spike, not as evidence of active feature development. Verify the full dependency graph and review the changelog since our pinned version before bumping."
