Technical Evaluation

Architecture fit: Strong fit for Laravel applications using Eloquent BelongsToMany relationships in draft/active “sandbox copy” workflows. syncAcrossCopies() targets a common staging/publishing gap: keeping relationship assignments aligned across copies without opening a draft or changing ownership.
Integration feasibility: Minor-version upgrade with no database migration. The API supports ID lists, pivot attribute maps, or a payload factory evaluated after parent locks, and returns affected parent copies for same-transaction timestamp/projection/audit updates.
Technical risk: Main risks are semantic rather than schema-related: removal-delta behavior across copies, preservation of unrelated assignments, custom Pivot compatibility, and explicit rejection of unsupported filtered relations and identity overrides. Locking and transaction boundaries need validation under contention.
Key questions: Which copy is authoritative when both copies have diverged? Are parent locks acquired automatically or must callers wrap the call in a transaction? How are global scopes represented when comparing raw database keys? What Laravel/PHP versions are supported? Are the 39 contract tests runnable by integrators, and do they cover custom pivot classes and scoped relations?

Integration Approach

Stack fit: Native Eloquent/Laravel package behavior; suitable for content management, approval workflows, catalog staging, and any domain with active/draft relationship copies.
Migration path: Upgrade to 1.1.0 as a minor release; no schema migration required. Verify Composer constraints and existing package usage before rollout.
Compatibility: Audit existing BelongsToMany relations for custom pivot models, global scopes, filtered relations, and identity overrides. The release explicitly rejects unsupported filtered relations and identity overrides, so those relations should remain on existing paths.
Sequencing: Upgrade in a non-production environment, validate representative draft/active workflows, add integration tests around cross-copy sync and rollback behavior, then deploy behind normal release controls. In application code, use the returned affected copies to update timestamps, projections, and audit records in the same transaction.

Maintenance: Low schema/maintenance burden due to no migration. Ongoing cost is understanding and documenting copy-selection and conflict-resolution semantics.
Support: Support teams will need guidance on when to use syncAcrossCopies() versus standard sync(), and on unsupported relation shapes that will be rejected.
Scaling: Parent locks may create contention on high-traffic parents with frequent relationship changes. Batch or schedule bulk syncs where possible and monitor lock waits.
Failure modes: Exceptions during sync should roll back the transaction; unsupported filtered relations/identity overrides will fail fast; mismatches between raw-key comparison and global-scope expectations should be tested. Partial cross-copy updates are the primary operational concern.
Ramp-up: Moderate for Laravel developers familiar with Eloquent relationships; higher for teams new to sandbox-copy semantics. Recommend internal examples and contract-style tests before broad adoption.
