Getting Started

This package targets Laravel 10 as of v3.0.4. Start by confirming your app is on Laravel 10 and PHP 8.1+ before installing or upgrading; v3 is not intended for older Laravel versions. Check composer.json in the package repo for the exact illuminate/* and PHP constraints, then install with composer require <vendor>/<package>:^3.0.

First places to look after install:

  1. The package service provider — confirm it is auto-discovered and whether it registers routes, migrations, or config.
  2. config/<package>.php after running php artisan vendor:publish --tag=<package>-config — this exposes credentials, endpoint settings, and feature flags.
  3. The package README and CHANGELOG.md — v3.0.4 is a compatibility release, so check for any v3.0.0–v3.0.3 notes that describe breaking changes from v2.

Your first use case should be the smallest end-to-end flow the package supports: configure credentials, run any required migrations, then execute one read operation (for example, fetching a remote resource or dispatching a single job). Verify the result in isolation before wiring it into application workflows.

If you are upgrading from v2, treat this as a major upgrade. Create a branch, bump the constraint to ^3.0, run composer update <vendor>/<package>, and re-run your test suite. Pay particular attention to renamed config keys, changed method signatures, and any Laravel 10-specific changes such as updated contract type hints or dispatch semantics.

WooCommerce compatibility is announced as coming in a future version. Do not plan production work around it yet; v3.0.4 is a Laravel 10 compatibility release, not a WooCommerce integration release.

Implementation Patterns

Wrap package calls behind a thin application service. Rather than calling the package facade or client directly from controllers, inject it into a dedicated service or action class. This keeps the upgrade surface small when the next major version lands and makes it easy to stub in tests.

final class SyncProduct
{
    public function __construct(private PackageClient $client) {}

    public function __invoke(Product $product): Result
    {
        return $this->client->push($product->toPackagePayload());
    }
}

Use the package's job/queue integration where available. If the package ships jobs or events, dispatch them rather than calling synchronously in request cycles. This is especially important for remote API calls, which are latency- and failure-prone.

Centralize configuration in environment variables. Bind package credentials and environment-specific endpoints through config/<package>.php reading from env(). Never hard-code API keys, and use separate credentials per environment so staging traffic cannot touch production data.

Adopt a payload mapping layer. Map your Eloquent models to the package's expected payloads explicitly. Do not pass models directly if the package supports arrays or DTOs — this decouples your schema from the package's contract and simplifies future upgrades.

Test against a fake or sandbox. If the package provides a fake, HTTP client stub, or sandbox mode, use it in feature tests. Otherwise, bind a mock of your wrapper service in the container so tests never hit the real remote system.

Integration tip: register the package's webhook or callback routes explicitly and verify signature handling before exposing them publicly. If the package auto-registers routes, confirm the middleware and CSRF exceptions in app/Http/Kernel.php or bootstrap/app.php are correct for Laravel 10.

Gotchas and Tips

  • Laravel 10 only. v3.0.4 is explicitly released for Laravel 10. If you are still on Laravel 9 or earlier, stay on the v2 line until you upgrade the framework. Mixing a v3 package with an older framework will produce dependency resolution failures or runtime type errors.
  • WooCommerce support is not here yet. The release notes describe future WooCommerce compatibility. Treat any WooCommerce-related configuration or classes as unavailable in v3.0.4 and avoid building assumptions around them.
  • Patch release, but major-version context matters. v3.0.4 itself is a patch, but if you are coming from v2, read the v3.0.0 upgrade notes. The compatibility statement in this release does not imply the v2→v3 jump is drop-in.
  • Check auto-discovery and cached config. After upgrading, run php artisan config:clear and php artisan package:discover. Stale cached config is a common cause of "class not found" or "invalid credentials" errors after a version bump.
  • Verify migration state. If the package publishes migrations, run php artisan migrate and confirm no pending migrations were skipped due to timestamp ordering after the upgrade.
  • Debug with the package's HTTP/log channel. Most integration packages log outbound requests behind a config flag. Enable verbose logging in local and staging only, and redact credentials before shipping logs anywhere persistent.
  • Watch for silent fallbacks. Compatibility releases sometimes relax type constraints or add fallback behaviour. Assert on concrete return types in your wrapper tests so a silent change in the package does not propagate into your domain.
  • Extension points to prefer: package events, published config, and any documented contracts/interfaces. Avoid subclassing internal classes or overriding vendor files — those are the first things to break in the next release, particularly with WooCommerce support on the roadmap.
  • Pin the version deliberately. Use ^3.0.4 if you want patch updates within v3, or an exact constraint if you need strict reproducibility. Do not use * or dev-main in production given an upcoming feature release is signalled.
